Hi!

I have had my 2.5 year old rescue girlies for 2 weeks now, but noticed that from the start Nelli has been producing extremely small poops. These are about half the size of normal poops at most, and sometimes even smaller.

Initially I didn’t think much of it, I presumed she hadn’t had been fed much (due to being neglected etc), and I thought that once she has more “input”, she’ll also have more “output”. She seems to eat hay, nuggets and veggies a normal amount (not as much as her sister who is a little greedy). She also drinks plenty.

She is much more shy, so she spends most of her day in “hiding” rather than exploring the floor like her sister. I’ve only ever seen her eat a cecal once (however this doesn’t mean she doesn’t ever eat them in private).

I’m worried about how little her poops are, and that they’re not getting better. Is there anything I can do to help her with this before going to the vets? I have no issue taking her to the vets, however just wondering if there’s any way I can try to help her?

I’ve tried probiotics and tummy care, but this doesn’t seem to have helped either.

Hi, I know you only had them for 2 week but were her poops bigger before and got smaller over time or were they like that since you got them? Also how is the consistency? You can poke two poops one form her and one from her roommate and compare them. They should squish a little bit but not be too soft and they should not be very hard either. The colour seems okay too from the picture but when you squish it it should be slightly lighter on the inside than it is on the outside. Let us know what you find x

The poops look fairly healthy and in my experience size does vary between piggies with some producing smaller than what you are classing as normal and some producing bigger. Please switch to weighing her everyday at the same point in the feeding cycle as weight loss would indicate she isn't eating enough. If her weight is stable or gaining I would just think you had a small pooper
