Small Poos And Possible Difficulty Passing?

Aw bless him, sorry to hear that. I sure the metacam and tramadol will make him comfy while your out the house. ((hugs)) x

Thanks for checking in - really appreciate it! Sorry wasn't online yesterday as wasn't well myself but did mean I got to spend an extra day with my little squishy pig.
He didn't seem to be quite so bad yesterday - couldn't see as much blood and he didn't seem to get we uncomfortable. Did spend pretty much all of his floor time licking the conservatory tiles which was rather odd though!

Aw sorry you were poorly. Glad Tango seemed a bit better...haha bless him. Sounds like the sort of thing my dog dose haha. Give Tango a big hug for me :-)

Poor little fella. He looks very cute on his hot water bottle throne. Hope he is comfortable and ok.

Sending Tango lots of love x

Really baffled after last night. His behaviour was almost frenzied - biting the bars to the max, eating so so fast and after he'd finished his veggies he spent the whole of floor time doing the floor licking thing so vigorously his teeth were knocking against the tiles! He also seemed really grouchy with us which was sad :(
And I thought they were meant to be dopey on tramadol!

Didn't seem quite as nutty this morning and Daddypig will be home all day so can keep an eye on him but I'm really not sure what this behaviour means!
Is he in pain? Is he fed up of me and meds? Is he having trouble coming off the metacam?!?

Oh gosh could it be the effects of the drugs? That must have been worrying to witness.

Definitely worrying! And I'm not trying to be funny but I was wondering if it could be going cold turkey off his metacam or something! It was just so baffling!

He's been calmer and less grumpy the last two days but is still doing the floor licking - wish it was still warm and light enough in the evenings so they could go on the grass and he wouldn't be able to do it!

So strange! I'm going to go with it possibly being the drugs as they are pretty strong!

My boys lick the floor if that helps any? Hope he gets better soon! x

Not had a great day today bless him. He doesn't seem in any more pain but we had a long cuddle this morning and I was very worried I was losing him :(
Throughout the day though he seems to have perked up again. Got them some of that dried dandelion mix but neither of them are interested! Typical!

Yes, bit of emotional yo-yo at the moment!

HUGS!

The emotional up and down with an ill piggy can be very draining. You are doing your best and are giving your boy the best care.

Floor or radiator licking is quite common. there seems to be a solvent in there that is very attractive to guinea pigs. :mal:

He's floor licked a bit now and then in the past but this is quite different - it's looks like obsessive behaviour or something, he'll do it for 15/20mins straight. Funny little lad!

Yes that sounds like unusual behaviour - but not necessarily due to the drugs.
Are these carpet/fibrous tiles or hard stone/clay? What are they cleaned with? I remember you referring to underfloor heating...is it switched on?

Unless he's trying to soothe irritation on his tongue (eg from fungal?) then it sounds like some type of "frustrated foraging"......i.e. he is looking for a particular type of nutritional source and can't find it.

If this happened to one of my poorly pigs, I would lay out a piggy buffet in small amounts on the tiles...not just what he eats regularly but all manner of weird and wonderful other things to try and find out what it is he wants......
a) coarse fibre: torn strips of kitchen roll/newspaper, inner cardboard tube, wood shavings (yes - some of my poorly pigs eat shavings)
b) Salt water(v small amount), diarolyte, osteocare...;........for sodium and potassium ions, minerals inc Calcium
c) metatone tonic - Vit B/K, Orange juice - Vit C
d) fresh grass, plantain and dandelion leaves
e) fresh basil (antiseptic), parsley and coriander
f) fresh silver birch leaves (still green not brown - good for urinary issues appraently)
g) fresh melon
h) dried herbage but spread out thinly including readigrass/hays
i) normal poops

My own urinary pigs have developed "fads" - mainly for coarse fibre and minerals/ions.........and in some but not all cases, some of the fresh natural forage listed above.....they seem to know what they need to get better...we just have to help them access it!

I know it's a bit "out of the box" but it's worked for me before!

Thanks @Pebble ! Wealth of invaluable ideas as usual.

1) hard stone ceramic tiles now. I think when you visited us before we still had the manky "just moved in" carpet tiles down still.
I only really spot clean them in guinea toilet areas with a 4 in 1 dettol spray and then wipe the area after that with warm water to remove any trace of cleaner.
Underfloor hearing has been turned on again for the past few nights out there - I hadn't even thought of a connection there!

2) he doesn't lick any other surface/object in or out of the cage, and his mouth doesn't seem to bother him at all so I feel it's unlikely to he fungal.

3) put a load of hay out for them during cage clean this morning and he mostly sat and ate that with no noticeable floor licking so i think you're onto something with the foraging!
Most of those things he's been getting bar the water based stuff and shavings. I cut basil/parsley/coriander from his diet due to the high calcium levels but they were all big favourites of his so perhaps he's missing them?

I'm thinking the heating was slightly too hot for his paws?

I would also re-introduce a small amount of his favourite herbs and see what happens....not a lot - but a sprinkling of shredded leaves into the hay. won;t do any harm as a treat now and then.

Well he was very perky yesterday, quite an amazing turn around since I really thought he wasn't going to make it through the weekend. He only had a little bit of hunching/puffy pig time towards the end of the evening, and enjoyed his floor time outside without minimal floor licking either so it was a good day all round!

Just got to hope for many more!

Bless you for checking in so often @jenniferanneharris - so kind and thoughtful!

He is very much up and down. He'll go from tearing down the bars for treats and then later on in the evening he'll look hunched and miserable - giving him a cuddle or popping him on his "hot water bottle throne" always seems to snap him out of that though and once you put him back in the cage he'll go to his hay/food and be a bit more active again.

He started being a little menace and spitting out his tramadol (even when it was disguised in banana!) but we've moved on to hiding it in blueberries and he's taking it properly again now.

So difficult to know we're doing the right thing for him!

Sadly I think we are reaching the end :(

He was more "off" than "on" all of yesterday and today it looks like he's barely left his snuggly house. Hes all puffy and not lying down like normal. He came out for treats and nommed them down like usual but was slow to come over.

Might have to make one final vet trip tomorrow as I don't think its fair if he's going to be like this from now on :(

I am so sorry, you are doing all you can for your little boy. It is such a tough decision to make, sending you lots of love and hugs x

Oh I'm so sorry hun. You know where i am if you need me x What ever you decide will be the right thing- Your a wonderful mum to Tango and Wyatt (as you were to Cash also) x x
