Hi all

Just found this forum site - what a great site - nice clean interface and all for guinea pigs, cool :)

My Daughter has a couple of pigs, one of them has a small circular area on the outer side of his ear - thought it was a blotch of something, tried gently washing it off but it's obviously some kind of skin thing.

Does it fit with any common Guinea pig ailments?

He seems unaffected by it being there

Thanks :) on behalf of Nibbles

Welcome to the forum. Looks like Fungal to me @helen105281

A definite vets visit needed.

Have a read of our Ringworm guide for tips on hygiene etc.... Ringworm: Hygiene And Pictures

Please don't leave it, it will only get worse. The right cream now will have nibbles cleared up in no time

Where about are you based we may be able to recommend a good vet

Hi welcome to the forum. I agree it looks like fungal. Have a read of the guide that Lee has posted as it covers all the different stages and the hygiene measures that are needed. The products we recommend are either Imaverol dips (Enilconazole) which are not rinsed off but stay on the pig to keep working between dips, or the oral medication Itrafungol. Both treat the whole pig and not just the affected area. Hopefully your vet will prescribe one or both of these. There are many types of fungal but the guide covers Ringworm which is the only type that will show up in any tests the vet does.

Thanks to your replies

Got back from the vet the other day - managed to whip him in on my lunch break.

She diagnosed a very mild early case of ringworm. Instructed to apply some simple clotrimazole 1% cream, which was cheaper to just buy over the counter.

Already seeing an improvement

Was also really impressed with the local vets - very friendly lovely service :)

Thanks again
