Small teardrop poop

This is what Velvet's poops are like this morning. I am happy to report there were lots of them in the Hospital Cage this morning.

This is what the cage liner looked like.

Is the heavy staining sludge, blood or oxydation? The small very red mark is a strawberry top stain. I'm taking this liner to the vet this morning so that she can see it. I still have the original stone in my bag in case Auxi wants to see that too.

Oh bless you @Betsy.
I don't know enough about bladder issues to comment on the cage liner.
At least the poo looks like it's heading in an improving direction even if it's not back to normal quite yet.
Good luck with the vet. I'm thinking of you both. ❤

Thanks. That's what I thought about the poop too. It's very worrying especially as I go to Germany for 4 days next Wednesday which means I have 5 days in which to get Velvet better. My piggysitter is very good and reliable but she won't syringe feed a piggy. My son is staying at home but he is not reliable. He says he'll do something, have every intention of doing it and then forget to do it!

Well good news! Velvet can go back on with the others now. She had had a thorough examination and Auxi said she passed it with a clean bill of health. She had a dose of ranitidine to encourage her to eat. I have to keep an eye on her poop for the next few days. She said the stains in the liner weren't blood so that's good news but she said it was hard to tell if it oxydation or sludge.

I’m sure that with her new found taste for poop soup Velvet will be happily following her cagemates around for a tasty snack. Good to hear she is on the mend. Well done xx

Well that was thoroughly unpleasant! It took me this long to persuade at least one of my 4 piggies to poop. Usually they are poop machines but when you need a fresh poop nopig would oblige! At least Velvet took her poop soup like at good girl. How often do I need to repeat this horrible task?

The best way to get fresh poos is to feed a little treat like some fresh grass or veg. The act of eating seems to stimulate the poo production. ;)

The vet gave her a clean bill of health and a gut stimulant but she still isn't interested in eating. I don't really know what else to do. I have syringe fed her this morning and she is in with the others. She has had 1 lot of poop soup too. She has to start eating by Tuesday so that I am happy that she is eating before I go to Germany for 4 days as my piggy sitter can't do that as she works. She didn't want a strawberry top today. I thought if she saw the other two eating theirs that she would want hers too but no it just stayed there on the ground until the other two fought over it.

Sending Velvet healing vibes. I hope she is better in time for you to go away.
When Peanut wouldn't eat I found he would have a go at thick grass stems (the round ones that get the seeds on the top) if hand fed one at a time. I found after a few days this was stimulating him to have a go at other old favourites.

Velvet will eat grass halfheartedly when she sees the others gobbling it up and last night she had a bit of rainbow chard. I am due to syringe feed her again soon. Last time she only wanted about 2ml though. So maybe she's eating without me noticing cos I can't be watching over her all the time. I have just cleaned the hutch out so she has lovely fresh hay in there now so hopefully that will tempt her.

I hate when I have to go away knowing a pig isn't 100% ok 😔 hope she makes a fast recovery

Well I didn't give Velvet her last syringe feed last night in the hope of encouraging her to eat. Er ....I don't think it worked. Her weight is now down to 942g from 975g yesterday morning. She only takes between 5-7ml every feed and if I feed her anymore than 3 hourly she refuses point blank to take any. This morning she started to run off when I went to get her which I took as a good sign. But I forgot to give her her dose of Metacam so I gave that in the hutch once I had sorted Christian. Velvet only took a bit of Metacam then didn't want anymore so I had to pick her up and give it to her on my knee otherwise she would only have had half of it. The vet said I could give her up to 1ml twice a day if I thought she needed it and to be honest it's not making any difference so I don't think that she's in pain and as she doesn't seem to want it I don't think I'll be giving her any more. She just sits hunched up most of the time under the wicker arch. I know a hunched up piggy is an unhappy piggy. The vet gave her a clean bill of health. I'm extremely worried about her now. She just doesn't want to eat. The vet looked at her teeth too and said that they looked OK its not that. I just don't think she can be bothered.

When I gave them their breakfast pellets this morning, I put them in front of her and she backed away from them and normally she devours pellets. Christian stopped eating his pellets and went around to Velvet and was obviously telling her she had to eat them as I heard him squeaking to her but she wouldn't move. She just blimped out under the wicker arch.

If all the good wishes from the forum aren't going to get her eat to what is? If I wasn't going away I wouldn't be quite so worried as I could keep syringe feeding her but I am so I can't.

I've only just seen this.Poor velvet, I really hope she perks up soon.I would have offered to look after her while you're away but I live too far from you.
Sending you both hugs xx

Poor Velvet, mystery appetite loss must be such a worry when you are going away! Might the vet be able to board her while you are gone and do the syringe feeds and monitor her weight and eating?

There has to be something the vet has missed, maybe try another vet. I don't know what else you can do

Have you tried fiberplex, poop soup? Dot keeps getting small poops lately and we also don't know what the hell is causing it, but fiberplex helps, only she is still eating like a fat kid eats cake.

I wondered if she needs some time to go back to her routine after the vet visit.
I never liked visits to the doctor's office so I can understand Velvet if she feels the same way.

She's had quite a bit of poop soup not tried fibreplex and there isn't enough time to get it before I go away. She is having SS Recovery Plus. about an hour ago she had 7ml which is the most she will take. I'm also getting Pro-C into her. I'm starting to feel quite stressed now as I go away in 52 hours and she needs to eat!
