i have a 2 1/2 year old guinea pig who recently lost her sister a week and a half ago . She was doing absolutely fine, I have been picking her up loads and spending about 2 hours a day with her, but this morning I noticed that her poops looked smaller than usual. Some were the usual jellybean shape, but some looked like they had been halved, and some were overall just a bit smaller. She is eating and drinking as usual, and her eyes look fine, she has a very, very slight runny nose though

What is her weight like? She is eating okay?

So sorry for your loss but welcome to the forum.
If you are still concerned after reading the thread @sport_billy pointed you to then take a trip to the vet.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry and most vets would rather see a possible problem early.
Looking forward to pictures.
Don’t forget to care for yourself too - your piggy isn’t the only one grieving.

Hello, thanks for all your replies. We took her to the vet 2 weeks ago, the vet says she is absolutely healthy, she says she has a slightly crusty nose, but didn’t mention it again. Although today I noticed her runny nose has got a bit worse, and there was a little bit of crust around her nose. But my mum spent a lot at the vet last time, only to find she was fine, so she refuses to take her back to the vet. I had 2 Guinea pigs, salty and pepper who I loved with all my heart. Now I’ve only got pepper. I think salty died because she was to cold and I didn’t feed them enough. I’ve been so stressed with my GCSE’s, and I’ve recently moved house and my parents have just divorced, but I know that’s no excuse. My piggies were outside at my mums house. I gave them hay, and nuggets on Monday, then a carrot on Tuesday and Wednesday morning, but I’m at my dads on Thursday, and my mum forgot to feed them, but I got home on Friday after school, and straight away went to feed them, only to find I was just to late. I fed pepper straight away, but I couldn’t see salty at the door as she usually is, so I opened the other door, only to find she had just passed away. I am only young, but I will remember that feeling of horror for the rest of my life. I have moved pepper inside into my bedroom, but she keeps biting the bars of her cage so I think she is very lonely. I don’t want to get another piggie for personal reasons. It’s all my fault, I am a horrible pet owner, and I feel so guilty.

@Wizzy unfortunately when you're a minor you parents have final say when it comes to pets, it was the same with me so I understand your difficult situation.

As you're noticing problems, bringing her inside and wanting to do something about it then that shows you're not a bad pet owner. You care about her.

Making sure they have hay and water is the most important thing.

Chewing bars can be a sign of boredom. Could you possibly get her out more often and let her wander around your room supervised? How about making her a toy? I give my boys the cardboard inside of a toilet roll filled with hay, or a paper bag or cardboard box.

In regards to her snuffly nose, it could be an upper respiratory infection, which needs antibiotics. But I understand that your mum won't take her. All you can do is monitor her closely and tell your mum if/when she gets worse. Offer to pay for a vet visit yourself with pocket money, or offer to do chores around the house to cover the cost.

If you can, weigh her every few days, at the same time. That's a good way to detect if pigs are ill.

Thank you so much, I weighed her last weekend and she was 770 grams, and yesterday she only weighed 710, but I realised her foot wasn’t actually on the scale, and she now weighs 809, which is good as the average guinea pig weighs 700-900g. I’ve looked into adopting a similar age guinea pig as I know they get lonely easily, but my mum also won’t agree to that. I just hope she’ll be ok.
