Hi,

My 5 year old sow smells really strongly of urine (only recently) and the cage is smelling really bad. The cage is spot cleaned everyday with a full clean 2 (been 3 recently because of the smell) times a week. The cage is over 5ft x 2.5ft. They spend half their time in runs which are - Indoors 6ft x 3.5ft Outdoor 8ft x 2.5ft.

When giving her cwtches now my clothes and skin smell strongly and it takes a lot to wash off the smell. You can also smell it on her.

She appears healthy and is happy to run around with her mate.

Any advices would be appreciated.

First step would be to see a vet, perhaps she is not as mobile as normal, perhaps is starting to get a bit of arthritis making her more reluctant to move and consequently sitting in her pee more.

Perhaps also weigh her more often than weekly just to monitor that she really is eating enough hay.

I hope she is ok

Another vote for the vet. She might be moving a bit less, she might also be finding it hard to keep herself clean too if a bit of arthritis or spinal spondylitis is kicking in.

Thanks for the advice, she's booked in to see the vet on Tuesday x
