Hi

I have two boys, both entire. One of them (brownpig) had a recurring abscess a year ago, and was on antibiotics for a long time. Since then he has had on and off soft poo, sometimes formed but soggy, and other times just a thick sludge. It has never been what i would call diahorea. He does get impacted, but mainly because it is so soft and doesnt form pellets, so it only comes out

Just before christmas, other piggy had a small abscess under his chin and was on antibiotics for three weeks. He has now finished that course, and has been a bit soft after that, which is expected. He is now normal.

Before christmas, they were both so smelly i had to bathe them, which went down like a lead balloon! Then they smelled fine for a few weeks. Yesterday, i had to bathe them both again as they both smelled of poo. They are on fleece over wood pellets, and i change the fleece every other day as it gets so dirty. Their scent glands are clean. They get fresh veg daily, and a handful of fresh grass, and unlimited hay and dry mix. I have changed their dry food over christmas as i ran out while staying at my parents and that was the only one i could get, so i will try and get some of their normal pellets (excel).

I am thinking of leaving them a few days with just hay and dry food and hope that sorts the problem. Does anyone have any further suggestions? Tonight Brownpig absolutely stank of poo, i had to clean him out behind but i dont want to wash him again.

Cut out all veg and keep on hay and dry food. Either buy probiotic or ask the vet for it. They also have some medicine which is similar and stimulates the appitite which gets the gut going, it's how they stopped one of mine having sloppy poops. I suggest giving them probiotics whenever they are on antibiotics, it's a hard medicine on their gut and really shouldn't be given that long according to my vet. x
