So I have a boar thats recently decided to stink up the place. I am wondering what I can do to stop the smell or ... something?

It is a super strong smell and even when I have just cleaned out the cage and put him back in, the place will reek within seconds. He's never smelt bad before. Just this month.

maybe he's...well...horny! One of my fragrant boys boar jizz stinks to high heven. Once a n month he gets a bath in just for boars from gorgeous guineas. Seems to help.

Oh my xD;

He lets of the smell almost daily, sometimes more. I bath him almost every week lately because of how bad he is smelling. I hope thats not a bad thing?

my boar can be smelly too!
I got the vet to check his bum before because I tought something was stuck in it!and she said that boars can get lazy and just not clean themselves - and she said if that was the case I would have to clean him!

How do you know if they are cleaning themelves?
Is it when they bend over and put their head between their legs? If so I see mine doing that.

I just want to stop the smell or help it lessen. It really smells the living room up.

Like this!

My boar does this too, but he still can get a bit smelly!

You could try the gorgeous guinea stuff and cage freshner and see if that helps!

Just make sure he hasnt got anything stuck in his bum!:o
This can happen from them marking their territory - my boar is always doing it!And I believe it can cause infection if something does get stuck!

wen you see him bending down hes poo picking!not cleaning hmself. Maybe its just his scent that is strong. I pernoally wouldnt bath them once a week may be to much for him once a month is the most i do but thats just my opinion.

Ohh thats them cleaning. Yeah my two both do that =)

I only recently started cleaning them once a week. Done it for 3 weeks now, just a little bit on their bum and lower body as they are otherwise clean and I was trying to focus on getting rid of the smell.

I notice Gilbert (the smelly one) often drags his balls on the floor and opens his bum daily. I have pulled a few bits and bobs from his privates so I think I'll check a bit more often with that.

I think I may get the gorgeous guinea stuff. I have a small animal wash I usually use and a cage spray when I clean the cage out.

Yeah he does it often. A few times a day. I'm not sure why really. The other guinea pig never seems bothered about scenting.

Thank you for the help =)

hes probably just more dominant and marking his turf! My David is the same, has to mark everywere! The just for boars does help though even though he HATES a bath. typical boy :p

Ohh I see. Overscenting.

Luckily for me Gilbert loves having a wash. He'll purr quite happily when I'm drying him off and he'll stand royally in the bath on my hands as I wash him. Though he does like to drop a single poo in the water every time I wash him.

haha my bilbo is like that, bobs along happily in the water wereas david goes mental! Silly boys!

Lol aw. Both of my boys are good in the water but as soon as you get Ludwig out and place him in the towel to dry, he'll run off down the counter and try explore everything. I have to chase him to put him back in the towel and dry him off.
