My cage smells so bad! Whenever I walk into the room I get the sent up guinea pig pee. I use fleece and I change the fleece one a week (I don't really need to spot clean because they are potty trained). But even though all the pee and poop is in one spot its still stinky.

Hi, I also use fleece but I have a corner with their potty tray that I line with newspapers and pee pads. I change that part out daily and find that it helps keep the smell down but will admit it does not make all of the smell go away. Definitely helps though!

I don't use fleece personally but most people who do seem to change it every four days, perhaps that would help?

Sounds like you may need to clean the cage more frequently or especially the toilet area

Do you empty the potty trained bit every day ? Mine have hay trays which I change twice a day... no smells ever - apart from the hay - which i hate the smell of!

When we had a smaller cage with fleece we needed to change it every 3 to 4 days

How long have you been using your fleeces?

Sounds like you are cleaning enough (assuming the cage meets the minimum recommended size for the number of pigs you have) but maybe your fleece has a detergent build up.

Your correx/base probably needs a really good clean. Mine started to smell at one point and I was kind of confused, smelt the correx and it reeked of amonia so I gave it a deep clean and put some vinegar on there too during the clean. Smells miles better now so that’s probably your problem

We change our fleece twice a week and wipe the correx down with disinfectant floor wipes, there's rarely any smell except maybe on the night before cage clean morning. We dont use ordinary detergent at all to wash our fleeces just a splash of the dettol disinfectant stuff sold for washing handkerchiefs or cleaning cuts and grazes in the main wash, then a really good rinse and spin. Been doing this for almost a year now and everything is still nice and fresh every time!

I have recently started to put reusable puppy pads on top of my fleece liners in the areas where they pee the most. The hay and piggy hair don't seem to stick to these in the same way they do to the fleece so i take them out and give them a quick shake each day and change them every 2/3 days. They wash well but take a little longer than fleece to dry (i guess because the core holds the water efficiently). When i change them i pop them in a carrier bag which i tie so that they don't smell and then i wash them with my main fleece wash or when i have a full load of piggy washing.

When I used fleece I found I needed to change it every 4 days otherwise it got smelly from the wee.
That’s one reason I reverted to wood shavings- I couldn’t keep up with the laundry.
I give the correx base of my cage a thorough clean and disinfect once a week and a spot clean during the week where the wee most.

I have hay trays where my Finn and Lara use as bathrooms so their fleece beddings get very little pee and poo on it. When I empty their hay trays, wash with soap, and wipe with vinegar, I get minimal smell from their cages, and I do this every 3 days.
Their fleece beddings are replaced every 4-5 days and Finn and Lara live in seperate cages. I use vinegar to disinfect all areas where my piggies come in contact with.

I think multiple piggies living in one big cage will have more pee and poo so cleaning more often would be necessary. Mine are indoor piggies but I don't have issues with smell in the house.

I change my fleece every 4 days, the hay every day. I use small fleece pads in the main pee corners on top of the fleece and change those every other day. The only thing that smells is fresh poop, I poop pick twice a day.
