Hey guys :)

I clean out my guinea pig every week, but after a couple days his cage gets really smelly again. Is there any kind of bedding, or something that I could use to avoid this? I know that the cage does gradually get smelly anyway, but it just gets SO smelly after two days and it just seems unusual.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated xx>>>

I think it probably depends on the size of your cage and how many guinea pigs you have.

I have 2 guinea pigs in a 3x4 cage which doesn't smell at all. I use fleece on top of towels which I change on average every 4 days (it depends on how wet the fleece gets in the corners) but I do spot clean 2 times a day (3 times if I'm not busy). If you're not keen on using fleece though I used to use megazorb which I thought was brilliant. It didn't smell either and could easily have gone over a week without needing changed but I did clean it out once a week.

There's only one in the cage and its quite big.. It has three floors ")
But thanks, I'll bear that in mind :)
I've never seen fleece in my local pet shop though, where else could I buy it from?

Oh that is quite a big cage for one, lucky piggie! What bedding do you use at the moment?

I just use fleece throws. I've found the cheapest places to buy them from is Primark and Ikea. I really couldn't recommend them enough. The fleece seems to soak any moisture through to the towel below leaving the top layer of fleece dry for the piggies. It's also a lot less mess; everytime my two boys would popcorn I had bedding going flying everywhere and it would then get trailed through the flat. It looks really nice as well.

Yeah, I just use normal woodshavings at the moment, and he also kicks it everywhere. Haha its so annoying I have to hoover like every day!
Does it not ruin the fleece though? And my guinea pig would probably start to eat it, he's a bit daft in the head ")

But I'll try the fleece it sounds like a good idea, thanks :)

Yep, that's what I was doing when they were on megazorb. It's amazing how much mess something so small can make lol.

I don't think so, mine are all fine at the moment and have been through the wash a fair few times now. Haha, I think the fleece is about the only thing my two haven't tried to chew - touch wood! (And they will try to eat everything... caught them trying to chew the bottom of my livingroom door a couple of days ago!). They do sometimes try to burrow underneath it at the corners but I've started clipping the fleece to the side of the cage so they can't get to it.

Let me know how you get on. I think fleece is a favourite for a lot of people on this forum. I've seen some lovely set ups where people have used it on here. It is quite popular. I hope it solves your problem with the smell!

Thank you :)
I will let you know, I think I have an old fleece blanket around here somewhere, so I'll use it next time I clean the little guy out.
