Hi, I was grooming one of my girls today and noticed that her rear end was smelly (wee). She's not wet, as I trim her long coat, so I think it was her vulva. None of my other girls smell like this. Do I need to worry?

I've also noticed some white patches on the fleece, dried wee. So I've just done a forum search; am I right in thinking their diet might be too high in calcium? They've had Kale this week, and I've also just read this should be fed infrequently.

Thank you

Alice

Please have her checked for either a cystitis or an infection of the womb. It could be either.

White patches are the result of excess calcium being excreted. This is a normal process, but if you see them several times a week, it would be advisable to check whether your diet is too high in calcium. Especially in the UK, the highest amount of calcium can come from water. Filtering and feeding only a small amount of pellets can be more important than feeding veg high in calcium. The more you have water and pellets under control, the more freedom you have with your choice of veg.
