hi guys! so recently when i was cleaning sylvester’s cage, i noticed that his poop smelt really bad and it was just only that i noticed, is there something to worry about? i feed him cucumbers, romain lettuce and carrots most of the time (with of course harrington pellets and timothy hay)

oh and also this morning i saw him kind of twitching, in a sense when like cats want to throw up, their whole body kind of moves up and towards the front? i don’t know but i hope it’s not that big of a deal because he seems fine and eating/drinking normal and i weighed him this morning and he’s 984kg (he’s usually about 980kg-1020kg)

I could be a number of things. Is the poop normal? I would cut down on cucumbers as they are high in water and can cause things like this.

Hi! Since hay should make over 80% of the daily food intake, veg only 10-15% and pellets about 5%, if you are worried over the consistency and smell of poos, please stop veg for a day or two until they have normalised for at least 24 hours (48 hours in the case of soft or shapeless poos. See a vet promptly when you deal with diarrhoea).

It is likely that you are overfeeding veg. I would also recommend that you carefully read out diet guide and adjust your veg selection as it is too low in vitamin C and magnesium, but too high in vitamin A, which will build up in the liver ocver the long term and likely too water, which is causing fermentation in the lower gut, and hence the smell. ;)
Too much fresh grass on top of the veg can also cause the fermentation.
