Hi I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction, I have 2 boys and after a while I decided to get them vet bed and I'd read that as long as you clean the pooh every day (which I do) you could get up to a week before they needed cleaning out.

I have newspaper under the vetbed and it's working well as the top is staying dry but the problem is that even if I pooh pick 2-3 times a day, I only really get 2 days before they smell really badly again.

I'm washing the vet bed at 60 degrees with biological detergent and it always smells lovely when it comes out of the machine.

Is there anything I can do to get a few more smell free days between changes, they are going to stay with my parents while I'm on holiday and I can see this being the first and last time if they smell too bad while they're there!

Sam

p.s I have tried lavender oil on the paper under the vet bed but this didn't help!

I'd have a look in the housing section or if you do a search for 'fleece' or even for 'smell' then there's loads of threads on this subject.

You could try putting towels and/or puppy pads under the vetbed to absorb the urine and if you don't already, use litter trays with a substrate such as paper pellets in areas where they spend a lot of time (under hay racks). :)

I use huge beach towels under my vet bed and under the towel I use a huggies bed mat (you know for kids who wet the bed?)
and I have a litter tray where the hay racks and water bottles are and that collects a good chunk of poops and mess, that gets changed every other day and even after 7 days the vet bed is dry, pretty clean and not smelly :-)

Hope that helps .. I wash at 60 and tumble dry mine on low

I found my boys were really smelly on fleece when I first tried it but then when I went back to fleece after using bedding it wasnt as bad but it was still smelly after a week, then I used bedding again fell in love with it but then decided to try vet bed ... that I am now totally in love with!
