Bodie and Doyle were in a bit of a state when i collected them (as most of you know from the freeads) and they really smelt! They stunk the car out and also the house so i had to bath them straight away which i didn't want to do. After i bathed them they didn't smell much better.
They have been bathed around 5 times now since ive had them with lice n easy and also Just for boars from GG. They still smell really bad and its really not nice. The guinea pig room is becoming unbearable from there smell. I know its them as i clean them and the other pigs out regular so i know its not that.
Any ideas? Its driving me mad and must be horrible for the other piggies.
Also there fur is very greasy. The other guineas have nice soft fur and smell lovely.
thanks

You sure its not the type of bedding you are using. I have heard that you use that megazorb stuff. When I have used it in the past I thought it smelt likt train toliets!

Continued washing will encourage the grease glands to produce moisture from that lost from the shampoo, so I'd hold off from bathing them again because you may dry out their skin and cause the grease to become worse. Have they been fed a poor diet? This could contribute to them having bad odour. Feed lots of fresh veggies and ensure they're drinking which I'm sure you're doing already. How long have you had them? They may just need time to settle down. If it's been a while I'd ask a vet to check them out to rule out any health problems and give you some advice.

i use megazorb for all the piggies and there the only ones that smell. You can acutally pick them up and smell there head and it makes you feel ill. Lincoln i smell all day if i could lol they all smell great. They were in a really horrible dirty cage when i got them and the smell is what the cage smelt of but i clean them out often and there in a new cage now so i dont get it?

I feel for you. I've never had smelly pigs unless they'd had the runs and were covered in poop... what type of smell is it? can you desribe or compare it?:)>>>

thanks tracy. Ive had them a couple months now i think. They have fresh veg in the morning and at night and drink more than the other piggies. One thing ive noticed on Doyle is his grease gland is filthy all the time and even seems to drip down his back (hard to explain):{ . even after ive bathed him it takes a couple hours to do this. Bodie doesnt have this problem but he smells also. There greasy all over however to touch. Ill maybe have to see a vet. what could it be ? mallethead The other lads grease glands etc are all fine and they get treated exactly the same

its hard to explain but stale old wee is probably the best way to describe it but its a very musty smell aswel. I open the door on the guinea pig room sometimes to let the smell out but as soon as i close it again it only takes 10 mins for it to smell awful again :)>>> I promise there cleaned out regular. there house bit (where they sleep) is cleaned everyday and there main bit is cleaned every 2 days, just like all the others.

I've been reading your posts often enough to trust that you are a clean mommy and take great care of your piggies. I would see the vet especialy if that gland is leaking... could be hormone problem. It most probably is linked to their conditions of living prior to you getting them but it's a bit weird... ?/

I'm not sure what to suggest, sounds unpleasant for you, Maybe a visit to teh vet would be the best things for the little fella's

I was wondering how Lincoln and kenickie were getting on now :)

I use Megazorb all the time and I've never had a problem with it - the only time there is a smell is when I've let the cage go over the time I would normally clean it by.

May not be the same but I had a cat whose wee smelt of acetone (nail polish removerish) and she had kidney problems.

Are they nearer the ladies, or younger and friskier than the other boars? They will have dirtier grease glands if they can smell a female and badly want to be with her!

thanks for replies everyone. they are in the room with the girls so maybe this is the problem? i hope not as i dont know where else to put them. I think ill try get them to the vet aswel just as a precaution.
Just hope they are ok

Lincoln and Kenickie are getting on really well thanks x>>. Lincoln was really down and i was worried. I thought maybe he was missing his log cabin as he likes to lie on top of it and watch me in the living room. I had to take it out as i wanted 2 of everything. So i went pet shop and got another one and his happy again. Kenickie seems to love Lincoln aswel :))

thanks :)) i was sooo nervous. Lincoln is a year old and has always been on his own. Ive been to scared to pair him up but i just decided i need to do something. Id give it ago :) you might be pleasantly suprised. PM me if you have any questions x

sorry to hear about your piggys smell problem, but i would deffinitely suggest in bringing them to the vet, if you have washed them 5 times and clean out their housing as often as you say, they should really be smelling pleasant now. Only time my piggy ever smelt was when she had diarihia and walked in it.... i washed her straight away and piggy smelt lovely. It might put your mind at rest bringing them to the vet, plus you'd have a lovely nice smelling piggy afterwards.
