Smidge - A Piggy I Rescued

This is Smidge, a little boy I rescued many years ago. I thought you might like to see the Before and After pictures.

Before:

I found Smidge in a small pet shop. He couldn't walk properly and was dragging his back end. I know it's the 'wrong' thing to do but I bought him, and took him straight to my vet, thinking he would have to be put to sleep. My vet gave him vitamin injections and told me he needed TLC. He also said the dragging of the back legs would improve, but one of his legs had been broken at some time and set at a slightly weird angle, so would never be perfect. Anyway, here's Smidge after a couple of months of TLC, good food and clean living:

He remained with me until he died of old age. I had him neutered and he lived happily with a sow who hated other sows but liked the boys. Thought you might like to see the piccies.

What an amazing difference, well done on caring for him and giving him a permanent home. He must be a miss.
Pet shops...they have a lot to answer for >

Yes, well, that particular pet shop closed down shortly after I got Smidge. It just closed. But there were still 5 rabbits and 3 guineas inside the closed shop! So I put a note through the door saying I would take and rehome them all. The owner's son phoned me back within minutes of me arriving home, saying his dad who owned the shop had gone into hospital and was dying, so I could have all the animals. I was there within minutes.

I rehomed all but one of the rabbits. He had bad tooth problems so I kept him and learned to trim teeth myself. He lived for 5 years with me. A friend took the 3 guineas and they lived long and happy lives also.

The shop should have been closed down years before this happened, but luckily it has now gone.

Thanks Linda. The way I see it is that I was lucky to find Smidge. He enriched my life immeasurably, so I figure he did as much for me as I did for him

hes a credit to you , you did very well , its great theres people like us who do think of animals like we do and are prepared to do something,
in yesterdays weekly ad paper some one had some guinea pigs male and female free to a good home I was tempted but thought as they are so hard to come by here on the Island I would let some other luckly person benefit, it did say good homes only so I dont feel too bad,
