Smudge Has A Broken Foot.

After a full hour, lots of biting, and displeased squeaks, I finally managed to change Smudge's bandage for this first time. Don't think it's too bad for a first time!

The scab actually came off with it - but it didn't bleed! There was a bit of...white skin healing in there, but I'm assuming it's tissue and things that will heal.

@TAN - any suggestions to make it go...smoother? I struggled so much getting it off as there's so much tap stuck to the fur and skin! I know Rachel wraps it in the same way for Bumble, so was hoping you might have an idea...

That's a very good wrap - better than two of the vets that did Bumbles when Rachel was away! - you need to get some surgical spirit to help remove the elastoplast - get one of those small squeezy bottles and squirt it liberally over the bandage to loosen the glue - even when Alison and Rachel have taken Bumbles bandage off in the past there has been lots of squeeling.

I had a piggie Eddie (RIP), a few years ago that had a spot on his back that he just wouldn't leave alone to heal. As a last resort, the vets stuck a sticky bandage around him. He absolutely hated it, but it worked a treat and his back healed up perfectly. Taking the bandage off on the other hand was met with much resistance, tears and squeals. Very traumatic for all involved, but unfortunately the best option in the end.

It brings me great joy to say this, but Smudge's foot is almost fully healed!

I wrapped the foot again this evening - I took the bandage off to find the scab had fallen off while in the dressing; but there was healthy, clean skin under there! It's still a little bit fragile and some parts of skin needs to heal more than others as the wound was pretty deep. However, this seemed to have gone perfectly well! The swelling has even began to go down! But we no longer have a scab there.

This is absolutely amazing as I really didn't think this would happen. I need to call Rachel tomorrow for a chase up about those blood results and to have further instructions as I'm beginning to run out of bandages!

Fantastic news! I have booked Bumble in to see Rachel tomorrow as she wanted to do an x-ray and urinalysis on him 3 weeks after his op - so this afternoon booked him in to see her next Wednesday, but have come home tonight to big pain squeeks and pink wee - his Bumblefoot has come back as his immune system is low and he is still on septrin tramadol and metacam - so hope it is something that can be sorted and it isn't the end of the road for him - but soooo pleased Smudge is healing and is back with her friends.

I got the bloods back and...no infection! She's okay! I can't believe how lucky we've been with that!

She's nearly healed up completely now; more bandages are being posted in the post tonight so I can keep going with the wrapping.

We're there. It's healed. Well, pretty much. And I'm just so happy that it all was okay.

I'm sure the added joy of being "home" with piggie mates has drastically increased the healing process. I feel loads better when I'm home resting with those I love! This is great news!

We did it. All healed. Just taken off her bandage for the final time.

It took six months of pain, sweat and tears, but we did it! Okay, she needs to grow back the fur on her leg, but still. Healed.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. You guys have always been a brilliant help, always being supportive and offering advice. You guys are amazing, and this forum is amazing. A huge thanks to @TAN as you got me in contact with the brilliant, brilliant vet who knew exactly what to do and look where we are now.

Thanks to you guys; I get to keep Smudge with me. I get to see her running around, happy, on all four feet and with her friends again. And I was sure at one point it wouldn't happen.

Thank you.

So pleased that it all worked out for you both - I knew Rachel would sort it xx
