I noticed Smudge biting on the bars in his cage earlier and thought I could only see one tooth so I took him out for a look. When I got to his teeth, there is only one at the top and when I looked to see where it had snapped off I couldn't see anything other than a grey patch on his gum.
I feel really bad as i haven't noticed earlier and I don't know when it has happened. :'(
I'm phoning the vets first thing in the morning, but for the time being I don't know what to do. He doesn't seem in any pain and isn't too bothered when I look at it and I know he's eating well as I've filled up his food bowl twice already today?

Just keep an eye on it. As long as there are no sharp edges and no bleeding he should be fine. All going well the tooth should grow back in up to 2 weeks.

No way, I never knew that. Does this kindof thing hppen regularly then with GP's?

Will still call the vet in the morning, like I said earlier, I feel so bad as I don't know when it happened :(

It's really not a problem. Scarby did this several times. I even searched through all the wet crappy hay for the toofie so we could put it out for the toof fairy. :smitten:

Is there any need for the vet then, or should I just keep an eye it and go if there's any probs? ;)

as long as there is no bleeding and he can still eat Ok I don't think there is anything a vet can do.

It has happened to a lot of guins on this site.

Phew, that's helped to reassure me. Believe me, his appetite is huge. He's been fed 3 times today and I know it's definately him that's eating it all because he's living by himself at the moment due to the piglet :)

It sounds all right then :)

Just keep an eye. You'll be amazed how quickly they grow back!

It's ok love, Duke's broken his a few times too, i take him to the vets if it's bleeding or split otherwise it'll grow back before you know it. LOL i panicked the first time also, had no idea they grew back, it was a huge relief for me and for Sully who i thought wouldnt be able to eat, he managed tho :smitten:

Thanks everyone :smitten:

If the kids are ill it's simple, Calpol then bed, am sure these little critters are more worrying ;D

To be honest some vets don't have a clue about it and cut the opposing teeth, causing even more trouble. I think that unless it doesn't grow back properly there's no need for a vet.

Agree, there is no urgency to take her to the vets unless the tooth doesn't grow back properly, bleeding, split and so on. :)

Well, had a little peek today and I can see some new tooth! Am still amazed at how they grow back ;D

Thanks for asking x

They grow back so quick! Even quicker than before when he had one. Ton's having his trimmed every 3-4 weeks since breaking his!

It is amazing how fast the grow back, one of my guineas snapped half her tooth off, within a week she had a whole tooth again. :o

Well I've had another look just now and there's half a toof there now which makes me think that I'd not realised he was missing one until well after he broke it :'(

Makes me feel bad that I didn't realise sooner, but he's on the mend which is all that matters ;)
