Hi everyone,

Hope it’s ok to post here but I need to say this...

Had my ginger boy Snarf for a few years now, I adopted him after reading what a rough time of it he’s had in his short life. He was bullied by his previous cagemate (who was up for adoption too but just looked a bully, if you know what I mean), half of his ear has been bitten off, clumps of fur ripped out and he came to me a very timid soul, so we spent weeks & weeks slowly and surely getting familiar with each other and he came on leaps and bounds & right out of his shell and is rather cheeky now lol 🙂, BUT... he recently fell rather ill, became a shadow of his newer former self, stopped eating and wasn’t pooping or peeing at all, dropped 100g in 7 days & I simply prepared myself for the worst 🙁I was at my wits end! So after numerous vet trips (bladder stones was my original first thought but nothing was found), they said it could be a UTI so they gave me anti-biotic’s & painkillers, but after reviewing page after page online, trawling for days upon end, I eventually stumbled across this forum and would like to say what a great help you’ve all been, I read up all the different issues you’ve all experienced & ended up taking him back to the vet and basically demanding critical care (which I got) & I hand fed him every 4 to 6 hours & then simply adjusted his diet and he is now well on the mend and back to his usual mischievous self causing mayhem in my life again!

Would just like to say thanks again guys/gals for posting all your issues as this has helped me/us out massively 😁

So what do you think was the problem? Normally a Guinea pig that isn't eating won't bounce back unless the cause has been found and treated. I'm glad he is OK now, maybe some food upset his stomach

I really have no idea, he was constantly wheeking in pain with it too but has seemed to respond very well to the AB (which I was wary of after reading so many negative comments regarding it) but I believe that cleared up any UTI that might of been present and after the critical care we were also given a gut activator to kick start his eating. Like I say I read all there was to read & ever since I upped his leafy green intake and introduced snap beans, he’s vastly improved so maybe it was just a diet thing?

To be honest It’s such a relief to see him so animated again.

Is ab meaning antibiotic ( baytril) and I guess the gut activator was either emperid or cysapride?, I have always found with my pigs that too many leafy greens gives soft poop. But anyway it doesn't matter, your boy is all good 👍
