I've got a Teddy Guinea Pig who is approximately 10-12 weeks old. She is living with an adult pig and another Teddy Guinea pig of the same age. Over the past 6 days she has been sneezing a lot. The other two guinea pigs are not. I know this isn't normal as I've had a lot of pigs in the past and none have sneezed as much as she does. She wipes her nose with her foot too.

Other than this she is really happy and healthy, eating lots, runs about in the garden, is lively and popcorns all the time. So there is no sign of illness and I lifted her to my ear and I couldn't hear any crackling in her breathing.

Therefore I'm unsure of what to do. Has any one else experienced this and found that it just goes away: perhaps just dust stuck up her nose or an allergy perhaps? Is it likely to be the hay or the sawdust. I'm due to clean them out again in two days and advice on a different kind of bedding to use would be helpful.

thanks

more thank likely she's just getting some hay or sawdust up her nose :)

sawdust isn't really recommended - fleece is, with news paper under it - it looks nicer as well in my opinion lol

I'm with Kira on the sawdust thing. That used to make my piggies sneeze alot when I first used it.

Fleece is better for them all round but not for everyone. There is always carefresh or megazorb if you like something you can sprinkle in the cage / hutch.

Have a look in the housing thread as there is a thread there that will talk you through the pro's and cons of other bedding as well as peoples rating of them.

But i have used both fleece & sawdust & my girls are still sneezing with both!

erm.. maybe as its the cold weather coming in hun, they might get colds like we do.. My girls didnt sneeze as much over the summer. all of a sudden they are sneezing every half hour!

hmmm......
