I have about a one month old guinea pig that I bought a few days ago. She is very active and runs around, but I noticed that every time I pick her up she starts sneezing and breathing as if she had a stuffy noes. when I put her back she stops sneezing. Is it possible for a guinea pig to be allergic to humans? Any ideas as to what it could be?

Do you use perfume or anything scented? That’s the only thing I can think of.

Hi!

It is either stress, which increases the breathing rate in the small and very narrow airways and makes every tiny obstruction very audible; in this case the sneezing clears the nose.
Or it could be a reaction to a perfumed skin product you are using for yourself.

Irritants to Avoid Around Guinea Pigs

I don’t use any perfumes so it might be stress because i have only had her for a few days now. Is it possible that the huge change in environment and air might be making her have a sniffly noes?

I have also noticed she sleeps a LOT. She has falLen asleep on my lap a few times and she curls into a little ball and sleeps with her eyes closed or almost closed. I know baby’s sleep a lot but If anyone has any ideas? I’m just a very worried piggy mom.

its always a good idea to get new piggies vet checked anyway, particularly as you say bought, I assume from a pet shop, so if you are worked, then do take her to a vet for a check up
