Dillon's sneezed a few times over the last couple of days and he's drinking alot of water. I thought maybe his new water bottle was faulty so I swapped his with Sweep's who I know doesn't drink much. The new bottle isn't faulty and Dillon drank roughly 100ml over 24 hours. Is this normal or should I take him to the vet? Sweeps being neutered tomorrow so I don't want him to have the op if he could have caught an infection from Dillon (their cages are next to each other)

Right now, I would not worry too much and just keep an eye on the situation.

Sneezing is normal and can be simply due to dust or pollen. Guinea pigs can suddenly drink a lot and then not; increased drinking is not usually a sign of a beginning URI, rather loss of appetite.

Whenever in doubt, weigh daily but allow for 30g variance - that can be just a full bladder! You are looking for continuous weight loss and other signs of URI like heavy/raspy breathing, snot or crusty eyes.

Best of luck for Sweep!

My rescue piggie sneezed a lot and vet diagnosed URI.
She was on baytril for 2 weeks.
Not sure she's quite forgiven me yet!
Keep an eye out.
If you think the sneezing is excessive (which I did in my case) then I'd suggest a vet trip.

It may be nothing to worry about - occasional sneezing is normal and may be caused by common allergens e.g. dust. The amount of water he is drinking is quite normal for some pigs, but if it is more than he usually drinks, monitor it for a few days. It may just be that he prefers the new water bottle to the old one and can drink as much as he wants now.

However if you are concerned and notice anything else unusual, it's worth speaking to the vet to rule some things out.

His drinking has gone back to normal and he has stopped sneezing. He has gone back to eating his newspaper though (such naughtiness) as a protest about Sweep not being there yesterday to run with when he had his floor time. As Sweep is still feeling abit sore I don't think Dillon will have his mate for a while

All the best to Sweep! I am glad that Dillon is back to normal!
