Sneezing!

So I went through to my room where the pigs are to check that they've eaten their veggies and all that. They both came up to greet me and I gave them a few treats but after I gave them their treats Bitzy sneezed but she carried on eating her treat but then in the middle of her eating her treat she coughed! So I'm worried that it's something serious. I've mentioned her to mum but she just said she'll get better and all that jazz. So I'm taking that she won't let me take Bitzy to the vet (I can afford it!) Is there any thing I could do to help her if it gets worse? I know I need to take her to the vet but I guarantee mum won't let me:( is there any medicine that I could possibly buy from say vetuk or viovet? I'm just worried that if I leave to long she'll die or she pass it on to patches! But one thing for sure I know it's not nice to witness! I just hope it's not URI!
 
Hopefully someone with a little more experience will be able to answer you query soon but I wouldn't worry just yet personally. My piggies have been sneezing a little every now and then since I had them, Ginny sometimes sneezes a few times in a row. Both of them have coughed and even had hiccups too! (at least I think it was hiccups) and they're both fine. I try to look for any lethargic behavior and not being willing to hold their heads up I'd get worried when I see that. If your piggy has been sneezing a lot or sounds as though the breath is wheezy then I would get them to a vet but other than that I'd try not to worry too much. I always check daily for a runny or blocked up nose too.

Also if you mum is refusing to take your animals to the vet when it's sick she could get in a lot of legal trouble. It is against the law not to take a sick animal to the vet when it needs to go and if you are a minor then she is legally responsible for this. Is there another family member who could take you and your piggy to the vets? If you have the money to pay then your mum shouldn't be getting involved if she'd not willing to take you. I know how strict some parents can be though.

Thank you! I never realised mum could get into trouble! I actually don't have anyone who could get me there. But all I can do is try and persuade mum!
 
If you are worried she need to see a vet. Have you told your mum you are happy to pay? We can only offer our thoughts and can't replace veterinary treatment and we aren't able to recommend over the counter remedies.

Sneezing can be a sign of a URI but can be linked to allergies too. What is she bedded on? If it is a URI she will need antibiotics. I appreciate it is difficult where you live, a friend used to live there.

She's on fleece but the litter I use is called easibed and its like shavings only more absorbant but that's all I can think of that can lead to an allergic reaction. I'll put just newspaper in and see if she's any better. It might be the bedding as her sister hasn't sneezed or coughed. But when Bitzy coughed she was eating a treat so maybe she got the treat stuck in her throat? But I'm trying to persuade mum to take me to the vet for a check up for her but even though I've told her I'm willing to pay she's turned to the excuse of will you be able to keep paying for treatment and medicine if she needs any or what about fuel costs to get her there >:( but I'll keep trying I've told her the dangers of URI but thanks

It's always hard when you rely on parents to help you get to the vet but others are right, seeking vet treatment is a legal responsibility and if you are a minor then that responsibility belongs to your parents.....

A one off sneeze/cough could be nothing or could be URI, allergies, dental problems or other things, that's why things are best checked out. Changing bedding is a good way to eliminate the possibility of allergy. if the change stops the problem then you have an answer. Other things are tricky to check out.

An odd sneeze or cough isn't something to worry about, it happens, just like with us but more than once especially with a snotty nose or other signs can mean problems.

I think looking up the exact law and pointing it out to her will be quite persuasive and maybe if you offered to pay for whatever transport you're taking? Offering to pay for petrol or something might sway her opinion if it's a long drive or pay for the public transport etc. Good luck!
 
I've taken out the bedding from the litter tray and just put newspaper in. I also have some megazorb which I'll try her on. If not the I might try and invest on some fitch or paper bedding for litter as the newspaper obviously won't soak up pee. But she hasn't sneezed or done any thing abnormal shes still eating, drinking, peeing and pooping (as she did it all over me!) She's popcorning around and annoying her sister which is all completely normal. There's no discharge any where. No runny noses. She seems to be all fine but I'll just keep a big eye on her:) but thanks everyone for helping!
