We recently got a new piggie and he's sniffling a lot. He keeps sneezing and refusing to go in the hay. He is a very active piggie and is already very sweet. When he sneezes, he immediately wipes at his nose so we can't see if he he is sneezing to remove some snot or something. He also makes a clicking sound when he breathes but only in short intervals every so often. What could this mean xx

I stopped him from wiping his nose and it looks a bit wet and runny. Here, look at the picture xx

I would advise getting him checked out at the vet, could be allergies possibly, but best to rule out a URI if it is constant

As the above poster says get your piggie to a vet. They can check your piggie over worth remembering piggies hide their illness's so for something to be showing it is 100% worth getting him checked.
Are you using shavings for bedding?

No we're using paper pellets. We only bought him a few days ago and I'm worried.

I feel like a hypochondriac but I can't help it because my other piggie died after having him a week on Tuesday because he had worms that had gotten to his brain. Rip little greg xx

Oh that's terrible sorry to hear that where did you get Greg from?
You're not being a hypochondriac in the slightest, as a pet owner you have a responsibility to get him checked out, hopefully everything will be fine and you can relax. And if it's not fine you caught it in time, got medicine and got him on the mend either way it's a win win situation. Doing nothing is the worse option.

Best to go with your gut and get him checked. If there is nothing wrong at least you will know. Is he a little friend for your other pig? I remember there was a little friend remaining on your other thread.

Yes, he was the friend we got for crumpet. We got greg from p@h and now we will never buy a pet from them again xx

If you got him from p@h you should have got a refund at the very very least and pushed for further recompense for the emotional turmoil. I believe pets at home do a two week free vets thing, so if you take him back before the two weeks is up for a check up it should be focused.

They did refund us and tried to offer us another guinea pig but we didn't want to take one from there. We've tried to get a vet appointment but the vet can't see him for a few days and, from my experience with my other piggie, as little as a few hours is enough for whatever is wrong to get worse. We aren't going to complain as that's the best that they can do and they are trying their best. It isn't our nearest local vet who we often go to as they don't specialize in small "exotic" pets so they told us to go to another vet instead.

The pets at home vet should see especially with what you've been through

We have his checkup today and hopefully all goes well. We spoke to the vet on the phone and she said that, if it is anything to worry about, we've caught it early x

It could well be a URI, if so he'll be on medication, but it's worth keeping a daily record of his weight, and weigh him at the same time each day. to ensure he doesn't go off his food and if his weight does start dropping off then best get syringe feeding. Always worth keeping a box of medical supplies handy such as pro-biotic, critical care feed, spare syringes for feeding etc. Good luck

The vet said he thinks it might be an allergy as his lungs are fine. He gave us some baytril to be on the safe side and we have to give it to him daily for a few days. Unless he starts to have leaky eyes or starts losing weight, there is no cause for concern apparently. He said it's probably an allergy so we're on a mission to change bedding and the brand of hay we use to see if it makes a difference. We are also going to stop using any cosmetic products in the room - they're in mine and my sisters shared room and, although I remember not to spray any products in the room, my sister sometimes forgets and sprays them. We are going to do this gradually and see which makes a difference, starting with the cosmetic products as I've heard that a lot of piggies have problems with those.

Sorry a bit off topic but I fell in looooooove with that picture. Little chocolatey piggy :luv::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub:
