I just got 2 little girls (Chirpy 6 months and Patches 1 year). Chirpy keeps sneezing. She has no nasal discharge and no eye discharge. She is happy and jumping around and eating well. She was treated for a respiratory infection before we got her. Their cage is not in a drafty area. Is some sneezing normal?
We love our piggies and want them to be happy and healthy!

what was the respiratory infection treatment for ? it could be the same problem

It may be that shes allergic to the bedding you use maybe :)

Sounds like an allergic reaction.Could be a lot of things.Cleaning materials, dust, sprays, perfume, even laundry powders could cause an allergic reaction.Air fresheners are often the culprit.

Thanks for responding. Chirpy started to get an small eye discharge and more sneezing so I decided to take her to the vet today. Started her on Baytril antibiotic and BNP opth ointment for her eyes. Ever use these before? Good results/Bad results? Any suggestions?

I also found out that the pet store we bought her from did not actually take her to the vet as they said they did. I'm not sure what if any treatment they actually gave her the week they had her. I'm trying to find more out about that. Caution to anyone buying a pet from PetCo - don't trust them to take your pet to a vet if they get sick! We bought our other guinea from the humane society and it was a much better experience.

Thanks
Diane

I heard loads about Petco and dont see why people who live over there dont hear about the bad things that happen :-\ :'(

As long as hes ok lets just hope he gets better :-* and i would go to petco and ask for some money towards his veterinary treatment O0

I'm working on getting PetCo to pay for the vet visit. Chirpy seems to be doing ok. She is still eating well and running around. I have been giving her extra cuddle time and making sure she is warm and happy. :)

Hi there and welcome to the forum from us in OZ :) :)
awwwww the poor little girlie i'm glad she's with you, you sound like a good piggie mummy :smitten: :smitten:
Baytril will work fine but she needs a probiotic for her tummy this will help as the antibiotics upset their tums. You should be able to get this from your vets.
Good luck with Chirpy, sending healing wheeks :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

btw any other concerns just post on here or start another thread there will be somebody that can help you O0 :) :) :) :)

yeah, try to get some pro-biotic O0 the thing is with anti-biotics, they're great at killing off tha bad bacteria, but also kill off some of the good bacteria in the gut, which could cause a tummy upset ;)
awww sending hugs and piggie kisses to you and your baby :-* :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
