This may be a wierd one but...

My soon to be 4 year old boy is making some popping/rattling noises when he breathes. Its more like he is breathing through a running nose kind of noise. He does not do it all the time, when I hold him the noise is not comng from his chest and he doesn' do it, or when he eats, or when he is in his playpen. Its quite random.

He has no other symptoms, he is eating normally, no running eyes, or nose, he is as active if not even more than usual and he is not fluffed up at all.

Do you think its snoring?... i know it sounds stupid but I cannot quite fathom it, he was doing it about a month ago, but not very often, its only now it seems to be a bit more, I can hear it across the room.

I plan to take him next week to the vets but I was wondering what you guys thought? If I can get the day off work I may try and take him eearlier.

HI love is there some way you could see the vets earlier?
I'd be concerned about the breathing :...
Sorry i'm not much help i'm not experienced enough in this area.
Best of luck XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Sounds like the snuffles, my buttercup gets it often. A dose from the vets normally clears it, but the last two times, we've cleared it with plenty of nice fluids and heat pad. She clearly has a weak spot. Good luck

Thanks for your replies :) Lucky my manager is an animal owner and I got the afternoon off.

The vet said that she could not hear anything in his chest or really locate the noise. The only thing she said his breathing was a bit more effort that normal, but then that could be the stress of the vet trip.

Anyway, to be safe, she has given me Baytril for 10 days.

Poor Mo also got called a "substantial pig"! I had to keep telling her how much floor time he has, and how much he runs around everynight trying to justify that he is not fat he is just a big pig! Poor Mo, he is only 1200grams.

Update... so hes has completed his 10 days on Baytril. The noise has now changed and its more of a guinea pig grunt and less of a popping :/

I think its a cold or something as he sneezes or puffs/blows his nose and it stops for a while.

How do I treat a cold?
My mums house is warmer is it worth him spending some time there as she has central heating and I do not :/

Any other suggestions?

Claire
