Hi. I just bought my first two guinea pigs a few days ago. Ever since we've had the one (enchilada) she seems to snort. She pushes air out her nose rapidly. Sort of sounds like when you say "hmph". There isn't any discharge in her eyes or nose, and she doesn't seem to have any other symptoms. I just don't want her to be sick :(. Her appetite is just fine and she drinks plenty of water. I use carefresh bedding. And shes loves her timothy hay.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum. :)

Could the snorting actually be sneezing? Snorting is a much gentler action, and tends to be dominance behaviour. Sneezing is a more forceful action and is quite distinguishable. Sneezing can be normal, as a result of burrowing in hay or perhaps a little dust in the bedding. If the sneezes are frequent (more than a handful of times a day) and accompanied by other symptoms, then it may be a cause for concern.

Where did you get the piggies from?
