Its been a bit of a week this week-after taking Lottie to the vets last week and again this week we then had to take Snowball because he seemed so under the weather. He was only eating hay and looked depressed and lethargic.

He has had a problem with mite on and off and we suspected this could be the problem again because he always looks fed up when he has this.
The vet gave him a good examination and had a look around his mouth but there wasnt anything obvious.I said we had noticed that Snowball was flicking his ears quite a bit and when she had a look inside his ear it was very sensitive and he kept shaking his head. There was also a lot of wax on the instrument used to look inside-dont know the name of it.?/

The vet decided that theres a possibility that he could have mite in his ears so she treated him there and then with some spot on.
Within a few hours he seemed fine again is eating and is much more his usual self-could the spot on have worked this quickly?
Would mite cause him to go off his food?

Maybe. The spot on could work that quick yes, but it wouldnt be truely/completely effective until around 24 - 48hrs after application. What was the product you were given?

I would keep a close eye on him for now. I'm sure the mites would have been quite uncomfortable for him. Have you cleaned his ears? or did the vet? Its a good idea to if he does have mites or even just dirty ears.

x.

I cant remember what the product is called-its the same as the one he has had the other times, we were given that one to do at home though, she did this one there and then.

We clean around his ears often-obviously we cant do right inside though but theres always quite a bit of wax around his ears.

He also gets a lot of dry skin and 'gunky' eyes-sometimes my daughter Amy has to gently ease his eye open when its really gunky.

I'm wondering if this is a problem with Alpaccas? Ive noticed there doesnt seem to be many around and even our vet said shes never seen one.

Well Snowball is certainly back to his happy self so I can only think the spot on worked very quickly.
The vet did say that he may need a repeat in 2wks but fingers crossed he wont.
