Snuffly Breathing

So I woke up this morning to Finn making really snuffly breathing sounds as he slept and he had a bit of fluff stuck to his nose. Woke him up, no change. Then I gave them fresh hay and he started running around, popcorning, eating etc. Then he sneezed and now all seems well, except for a few tiny little mini sneezes here and there. No wet nose or eyes, so I’m thinking he had some fluff stuck up there and his nose is still a bit tickly, but I guess it could also be the start of something more sinister. Honestly, I’m inclined to go with the former, but I would appreciate backup/second opinions

It could be that his nose was irritated by hay or floof. I would keep an eye on him and take him to the vets if the snuffle comes back or if he develops anymore symptoms

I think I’d just watch and see what happens during the day today, too. They have very narrow airways so something can easily irritate it (like fluff). If he’s sneezed out the irritation then that should be the end of it. But if it carries on (the snuffling or the sneezing) then I would take him to get him vet checked.

It sounds like he may have had something got up his nose, like hay pollen or dust etc.. If necessary, see your vet in case a piece of hay has got stuck in the nose if the sneezing is still going on by tomorrow.
Many people are not aware just how small guinea pig airways are. They also don't don't know that guinea pigs can't breathe through their mouths, so every little blockage is ever so audible.

Bacterial URI and other respiratory illnesses generally don't start with just sneezing (they are NOT comparable to a viral human cold); you see other symptoms like raspy and crackly breathing, loss of appetite/weight etc. more often as the first symptoms. The really bad respiratory illnesses also progress very quickly.

Thanks all, the sniffling stopped as soon as he sneezed and now he’s mostly just bewildered as to why I just keep getting really close and staring at him. I shall keep a close eye!

I would not worry - what has bothered him, is obviously been sneezed out now.

Seems that way I’m a little prone to overreacting at the moment anyway because I’ve got a hormone secreting brain tumour which gives me huge anxiety. So naturally I feared the worst thank you everyone!
