I wanted to reply to the thread that was posted on here about him but it has been locked so i have started this one to put my side of this across as i seem to be being blamed for this.
I explained in my thread offering him to be rehomed that he had a fungal condition and needed a lot of care.
I have been in regular contact with Vedra, who many of you will agree is the best person to speak to if you have problems with a guinea pig's health.
When he first became ill i phoned Vedra and she made an appointment for me to bring him in, unfortunalely she couldn't fit me in until a week after he had become ill and his condition had deteriorated by the time he got to her.
Once she had him he was in her care for a while as he kept on scratching even though his skin condition had cleared. When i collected him she gave me advice on how to bandage him up to avoid him scratching and to dip him every other day to continue his treatment.
He was much better in December so we stopped dipping him but carried on bandaging him as advised by Vedra.
By the beginning of January his skin condition had returned so i took him back to Vedra, who gave him an injection and some more dip. We continued with this but was advised by several different people that it was unfair to keep him on his own and we didn't have the room for a larger cage so i decided it was fairer on him to find him a new home.
At the time that i handed him over i gave instructions on how to bandage him and dip him and even gave my membership card so he could continue to see Vedra.
This was the last i heard until now.
I have done everything possible to help him and he was getting better when i rehomed him or i would have never even considered giving him away. His skin was starting to clear up and as he was bandaged it was impossible for him to scratch.
So, i have the following questions:
1. How did he manage to scratch himself if bandaged?
2. How did he suddenly, in a few days deteritorate so much?
3. Why was i not informed. I would have taken him straight back and treated him.
I'm angry and upset at the news of this as i feel now that if i had not given him away he would still be getting better. He might not have been as happy as he could have been as he would be on his own but he would still be here.
