Just back from town and there is a pet shop there i went in to get timothy hay for my piggies while i was there we had a look at the animals the poor rats were in wire cages with nothing at the bottom of the cage. There was two piggies in a ok sized cage but was cuddled up to each other they looked so scared poor little mites. i was so angry of what i saw today and i will NEVER bye piggies or any live stock out of pet shops!! it made me really upset to see where some of the animals were kept like there was also 2 big amazon parots there in a tiny cage they had feathers all ruffled and didnt look happy either. anyway i just wanted to air my vews at it made me mad!i dont have room for two more piggies or i would have got them out of that horrible place :0

it is sad i posted a thread similar to this a few hours ago,i ended up leaving a piggy in need of medical treatment at the petshop because i thought about it properly and eachtime i do save one of these babies they just replace it. Basil(my boy) was one of these piggies at the same petshop i went to today and i felt like i had to save him although i don't feel it has helped any other piggies the petshop still doesn't care for them properly and they wont listen to me,and i figure and averge of 20 piggies a week go through there, what can i do to help?:(:(xxxxxxxxxxx it tends to feel like you can't do a thing but maybe make a complaint to the store owner or manager thats what I'm doing;)

one of the rats was v lethargic and i dont like rats but to see what they were living like pulled my heart strings. pet shops ony think of one thing and its not the welfare of the animals its money they look after money better than the pets its soo sad and your right if you save one there is always gonna be more in need of help.

That is horrible.
Unforunately we will never be able to be able to stop pet shops selling animals as much as i would like it to stop.
I rarely go in to pet shops now and if i do i dont go to look at the bunnies, guinea pigs etc as its horrrible to see

i have quite a good pet shop by me but the cages are a bit on the small side but the animals are well looked after and seem happy i also have a pets at home near me though they never seem to have any piggies as theres a piggie shortage ! 8i'd rather adopt anyway i adopted a 4 month oold piggie ,dennis 'cos hed had ringworm when he was brought to pets at home as a baby 2 be sold he got better but he was to'old' to be sold so they put him up 4 adoption so i got him

I have never come across a pet shop selling animals that are treated badly and not looked after properly myself.
And the local P&H store I go too and have purchased my hamster and guinea pigs now and in the past from have been great and they even give you a through talk about whether you have got the suitable equipment for the pet when you purchase a pet from them and you have to sign a form.
All the animals in their, specially the piggies and rabbits are in spacious cages, with sawdust, hidey holes, water, hay area, food. And in the Summer I have seen a frozen water bottle in their cage to keep them cool.
This goes to show that they are not just selling animals to make money, but they also care about their animals health and comfort too

It's quite sad that there are pet shops out there treating animals in poor condition though

this go's to show that even an apparent good petshop has no knowledge of guinea pigs.Sawdust?

its terrible how they are treated, it disgusts me. The pet shop i bought my 2 boys wern't bothered asking me questions like have i had any guinea pigs that type of thing so i paid for them and she told me just to sign the sheet when i got in the car it said informed about toys, food etc i thought they just put them in a box and i paid for them that was it. Lucky i had read up on what i needed before i purchased them otherwise i wouldn't really have had a clue x
