about 30 minutes ago i had a knock on my front door, and it was an rspca officer, saying that there had been a complaint about 5 guinea pigs being mistreated at my address :o:o:o i must have looked like a right idiot stood at my front door with my mouth wide with shock! i invited the woman in and said feel free to take a look at my pigs, she had a look in each cage and said well theres certainly no animal cruelty going on here. i think she was just as shocked as i was, i asked if she could tell me who made the complaint but she said it was confidential.

after thinking about it i think i know who made the complaint, a couple of weeks ago my partners mum and dad wanted to come and visit and i told them they'd have to put there dog (a staffy) in kennels as i wasn't having him in my house, as the last 2 times i've had to board my guinea pigs with my rodentologist, why should they have to be kicked out of there home!, and he also chewed my sofa! so in the end they never visited and his mum has been off with me ever since and i wouldn't put it past her to do something like this

i'm so angry right now i can't stop crying! grrrr

Oh my God that's horrible. At least you were able to show the lady that everyhting was fine. What a nasty thing to do to someone.

poor you :x some people!
At least you were able to show the RSPCA lady that you do take very good care of your piggies

Horrible with the untruthful allegation, I can understand you are mad, but it's good to know that the RSPCA take guinea pigs seriously enough to come and check! It's not nice for you, of course, but you know, on principle it was good?

I wonder if the RSPCA get back to the people that make these nonsense claims and have a go at them for wasting their time? They really should. pow-pow

As for your partner's mum - :x:x:x

Big hugs for you though - what a shock!

Suzy x

This sickens me! Why are people so cruel? I have 2 dogs but I dont let anyone elses in the house because I dont know if they are good with animals or not! and as to chewing your couch I would have been livid! This is an all too familiar story. My friend has a giant conti and the sspca where at her door with a complaint she lets it run round the garden mallethead people honestly are so idiotic! Cheer up hun you know you look after your piggies brilliantly and dont let people make you think otherwise! x

Be strong poor you, i would have felt exactly the same !
Unless you have evidence let it go with the knowledge you are brill owner.Make a point of telling your partners parents all about your visit and how much you think its a good thing peoples complaints are checked ! You were more than happy to show the inspector around mallethead shame his time was wasted its a shame the people did not have the courage to speak to you themselves ! Squirm squirm x

skrikopanik, yes it is good to know the rspca take guineas seriously, so i guess the check was good, just a big shock when they knock on your door!

Suzy, yes that would be a great idea, but i doubt they'd do it, its stupid, they could be knocking on someone elses door who are mistreating there animals! grrrr

Thanks for all the comments it just a shock when you get accused of something you'd never dream of doing in a million years! i think i'm going to take Candyfloss' advice and go and have some piggy cuddles :)

Big hugs hun, must have been such a shock. I agree with the others to let it go safe in the knowledge that you're a fab piggy owner and the rspca could see that straight away. x

My friend has a giant conti

really sorry but what is one? :red Obviously the word giant explains the stupidity of the situaton as i'm guess it needs space!

And how out of order of your OH mum if it is her I would never let my animals behave so badly in someone elses house or expect their pets to play second fiddle! I hope the RSPCA goes back and tells the person just how well they are looked after!

How awful! In a way I hope its not your partners mum as it would be difficult to come back from something like that. What has your partner said?
Glad you could show how well looked after they all are. And I hope they tell the busy body that they have wasted their time and used them for a grudge revenge!

What a horrid thing for someone to do. It is a total waste of an inspectors time. Try not to rise to it, that is what whoever it is wants. Perhaps make a joke about it next time you OHs mum is around "Haha some moron thought they could annoy me by ringing the rspca rolleyes just wasted their time" Kind of thing

I think it is short for giant continental rabbit.

That's awful of whoever did that. :( That must have been scary.

I'm always a bit scared that someone will call the ISPCA on me cos I have so many animals and sometimes the puppy will cry or one of the other dogs will screech if her nails are being cut! Even thouhg I know the ISPCA inspector and she's been here twice for homechecks rolleyes I'd be so embarassed if they came round on a bad day when the cages are starting to get a bit dirty or something.

Spoke to my partner when he got home and he was just as shocked as i was, i said to him about it being his mum that phoned them, and he said that he wouldn't put it past her to get her own back :x :x i've calmed down alot since earlier so i can think with a clear head! next time we go to visit his mum i'm just going to casually drop it into the conversation and see what happens {:|

omg that is awful - if anyone ever ever called them out to my house i would be well cheesed off and anyone all of us on here love our animals and we take very good care of them - hope you are ok now xxxxx

Blimey! That's really bad, especially if it's your other half's mum! ?/

Bet the RSPCA inspector wishes all of her calls were to good homes lik eyours though ;)

thats horrendous. i feel sad for you. thats wasting the rspcas time as well.

i cant understand some people at all. i agree with you not letting them come round wiht the dog. my mum has a jack russell terrier who i love dearly but now i have the pigs she does not step foot inside my house for the safety of the pigs x

what a shocker that would be for you :(

As everyone has said all of us on here know how to look after and treat our guinea pigs along with our other animals and would never do anything to harm them - good that the RSPCA did follow up a "complaint" as I am sure there are loads that they don't follow up and they are probbaly the ones they should as we al know animal cruelty goes on wish it woudl stop though

chin up and don't worry about whoever complained they are not worth the hassle and obviously have nothing better to do with their lives when they interfering unnecessarily in yours grrrr

I can't believe this woman expects you to accommodate her pet and kick out your own pets when she comes to stay.

What's the difference between inlaws and outlaws?

Outlaws are wanted!

I dont blame you being angry! I would be. I sincerely hope its not your OH's mother being that petty, if it is she's a cruel lady. Not only for wasting your time and upsetting you, but also wasting the RSPCA'S time, that could have been an inspection where an animal got saved.

Oh my, some people! and some nerve! I hope that doesn't make a flicka in your relationship. How silly is the mum to bring a dog that terrorizes your home? The guineas shouldn't have to leave because of their visit. Your house. Your rules. I'm glad that the inspector saw how well you kept the piggies :)

I'd be down right upset too though.grrrr

I'm sorry this happened to you, and I don't blame you for being so angry! I don't even know you but I can tell its obvious you love your guinea-pigs.

we are visiting my partners parents over the bank holiday weekend, so i'm going to casually mention i had a visit from the rspca and that everything was very good, see if i can make her squirm ;) :x
