Just met my friend from down the road that has the two guinea pigs in a 100 cm cage with no enrichment or hideys.Asked her if she had the money she owed me and she said she hasn't and didn't have hay or sawdust or piggy food.I took some hay round (again) and the piggies were in the cage with no shavings or anything.There was pee in it and they were sitting in it.I came home and got some ecobale as I don't use shavings.She knows I have some form of bedding all the time but didn't come down to ask.She had fell asleep seemingly after her daughter had cleaned them out so didn't get to town on time to get it.Wish she would surrender them to rescue,they deserve so much better than they have.
 
Oh for heavens sake. Your friend makes me so cross. Whats she doing, she cant be running the rest of her life in the best way if she is not managing basics for the piggies. I wish you could send those boars down to me. I currently have a spare 5ft hutch. I am really cross and i dont even know the pigs, how do you manage to keep your temper?
 
If she had run out of shavings she could have at least put them on newspaper :(
 
She knows I always have plenty of substrate and I would give her some.Its like talking to a brick wall.If I lose my temper I can't help the boys.They aren't neglected enough to report her so I don't have a lot if choice if I want to improve their lives.She may be getting evicted so could end up in rescue anyway.They are beautiful cuddly chunky boys
 
Oh so things are going badly for her in all areas, if she is facing eviction :( sounds like a bad situation.
 
To have no bedding at all is appalling! They will be sitting in their wee. She is so selfish to keep them in such poor conditions. Those poor boys have a terrible life. Surely something can be done?
 
If she wont give them up and wont improve their lives then yes, she is being selfish, even though i do understand that she is in a horrible situation if being evicted etc.
 
I agree she cannot be happy and has problems but she needs to think of those poor piggies.
 
Yes, she needs to be realistic about what she can manage. I hope to volunteer as a fosterer for people's small animals when they are being evicted etc till they get back on their feet. I read about a charity in my husband's housing magazine.

i am in a crap situation but my animals are clean, fed and happy. They cant look after themselves so you have to do it. The day after i lost my hubby i rang a guinea pig rescue to ask if they could take my piggies in if i got a big vets bill before my money was sorted.I make sure i have gas, electric and food for my kids then animal stuff. If i couldnt keep them properly they wouldnt be here.Her piggies look healthy at the minute so rspca wouldnt do anything anyway.I dont know if i will have my house soon but i get on with it and will look after them until it is no longer possible. There is no excuse.

I totally agree with you. There is no excuse. If only everybody was as caring as you are.
 
You are a great person.
I hope you dont loose your house and animals but i also know you will do the best you can for everyone concerned. If you need foster help do ask on the forum. You are a long way from me but i would help if i could.

@piggyfan one of my managers at work does temporary pet fostering for people who are made homeless or go into prison etc. And for women fleeing domestic violence.

Its something i would really like to do.
