I tried to start an online petition to campaign against Pets at Home selling animals and they have rejected it. If you get enough people signing it, then it can be discussed in parliment. I guess there goes my idea out the window. I was so hoping it would start something. grrrr Heres what they wrote: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/17309

x.

Good letter, what a shame it was rejected. Well done for trying though.

Just had another look at this, and am confused as to why they rejected it. Your letter doesn't seem (to me at least) to fit into any of their categories for innappropriate petitions?

party political material
commercial endorsements including the promotion of any product, service or publication
issues that are dealt with by devolved bodies, eg The Scottish Parliament
correspondence on personal issues

Did they give you any additional reasons? Depending on their feedback, perhaps it could be re-worded? For example, if their problem is with you mentioning a specific pet shop, the language could be changed to pet shops in general that don't keep animals properly?

So basically, to them, the poor welfare of these animals in their country has absolutely no importance to them?! How is this not their responsibility?

It could be worded differently, that may help. I could offer a paragraph or two tomorrow when I have more time but then again, you said enough for it to be a concern of theirs. They're more interested in talking sh**e and doing naff all!

What the hell?! Those reasons do not related to what you wrote?! Livid!

Maybe as others have said we could re-write it together and give it another go? Lets not give up!

surely its illegal for them to reject it if it does not fall within the reasons for rejection. It is part of your rights. Anybody studied politics? I have a friend who has if not who i can ask.
Generally the process is just so long winded people give up (unless there is money to be made for them somehow)
there is a branch of the government called Diplomatic Services, who are to ensure all government employees are carrying out the job they are meant to be doing for the citizens of this country, maybe try them if you feel you have been unfairly treated.

That is terrible! Their answer does not even make sense to me. Something really needs to be done. The number of people who buy sick guinea pigs is shocking.

Thats a great idea, but like everyone else I dont seem to get why they rejected it. I had the same thought as Little Pig, and maybe it was because you mentioned a specfic brand. You could try again with a general blanket of all Pet shops?

Maybe it's because it's aimed at a specific shop. Perhaps you could try again and make it to ban ALL pet shops from selling livestock?

Don't give up - there's many of us would sign a petition if you can get one going :)

Oops - only saw the first page of posts and missed the one above my first - great minds think alike! :))

That is ridiculous! They have no grounds for rejecting it, their response clearly shows that! Your letter did not fit into any of their categories and they didn't even give you a proper explanation.

I know it's not the same but my last application for student finance was rejected because they said I was on an Open University course. Funny, last time I checked, the University of Plymouth wasn't part of the Open University! Seems like this too, is a case of the person not being bothered and just sending out a general rejection letter which is simply not good enough.

I hope you re-submit and if you so, please let me know if I can help at all

They'll have rejected it if you specifically aimed it at P@H. Try rewording it to ban the sale of pets in all pet shops... It'll **** be accepted
