I've been at work all day today (12-hour shift) and my older sister has been at home. I got back about an hour ago, and when I went to check on the piggies and grab their veggie bowl from under the cage, I noticed some of Noodles (hamster) food in the cage. I picked it all up and I asked my sister if she'd given them anything. She said no but I have a feeling that she's given them some of Noodles food. I picked up seeds mainly and there were a few pieces of Noodles bedding in there too. My sister told me that she was holding Noodles and she must have had some food on her top, but I find this unlikely.
I am so annoyed right now...And people wonder why I don't trust anyone else with my piggies. I've only just started to trust my Dad and my step-mum with them.

Do you think this will harm them? Should I look out for anything? Both Penny & Luna seem okay at the moment.

No wonder you are annoyed. I would be too. I am sure this once it will do no harm. Seeds a high in fat more then anything else so this will not matter as it was a one off. I am sorry this happened as you were caused a lot of worry and stress.

Thanks.
I don't think I'd be as annoyed if she'd admitted to it. I think it's more the fact that she's lied. Everytime I've had Noodles out, she's never emptied her pouch on me, and even if she did, surely it would have dropped off before reaching the pigs. Their cages are on opposite sides of the room.
Anyway, Penny & Luna seem to be okay tonight, so I'm going to try and not worry about it so much. I'll just keep and eye on them.

It does look like she lied. I have no idea why she would do that. Maybe she got scared thinking you would tell he off. It could be an idea to tell her not to feed them hamster food again as it is bad for them? Of course that is up to you I just thought with you working long hours it could happen again.:...

I've told her, and I've also labelled the hamster food as 'HAMSTER FOOD ONLY'. Hopefully now that she knows, it won't happen again.

I've had similar things before, although not as bad. I feed by guineas excel which is in a big grey bin. I also have a small storage container of gerty guinea food I feed as a treat (one or two pieces no more). I came home once to all their bowls being full of gerty! mallethead was lucky their stomachs were ok with the sudden change.
I now label everything! Although yesterday I came home to a tonne of ready grass in every cage even though I'd labelled it 'feed sparingly as a treat'. It was also put onto the fleece which I haaate. I tell everyone to put hay in the piggies trays grr.
Feel your pain

Such a sorry situation! It's good that the piggies weren't so fussed about the grain, otherwise you wouldnt have found any in the cage in the first place!

I had a semi similar situation in which my ex's mother has MS, she used to forget what shifts I was on and feed the guineapigs night and day whenever she came up the stairs.. she would see them run over and squeek and she'd feed them automatically. I ended up hiding the food and telling her not to. Made me feel terrible because she'd keep knocking on the door to let me know she just gave them a slice of cucumber or something - she just wanted to be nice... and it wasn't her fault which shoud be the point..

but my GP's got very porky very quickly, very bloated and one of them has very small diffuse fatty lumps all over her tummy which the vet says he had no idea what to do about so they are permanent :a19:

I guess if the problem occurs again you know she's not doing it out of ignorance, but for her own reasons so you're probably safer to put away the hammy food?

All of the food and stuff is usually put under the GP cage. It just happens that I fed all of them yesterday before I went to work and forgot to put the Hamster food back mallethead I have mentioned it though. I've 'trained' my step-mum with what they can and cannot have so she's pretty good with them. I guess I'm going to have to do the same with my sister. haha :))
