I was DO disappointed and angry on Sunday. I went to a large festival in my local town, it was held around a lake. Maybe 100+ stalls and a 6km walk all the way around, so as you can imagine it was huge and very busy.
As we strolled around, getting sunburnt I noticed a large crowd of people around one stall.. then I saw the sign and recognised it was the small animal rescue. A guy was sitting cuddling a rat to show people, the other rat in the cage was curled up in a ball breathing heavy with no where to hide. There were kittens in a cage being poked and prodded. And then I noticed the other cages, 2 rabbits. No hideys, even though it would have been too hot for the plastic hidey houses they had on top anyway. And then in the next cage half in the dappled shade from a tree was 2 guinea pigs, flaked out in the corner together stretched out on their side clearly hot and stressed as again no where to hide.
I was disgusted! How can an animal rescue consider even taking these animals to such a huge event! In fact 3 years ago I also remember seeing them at a farm expo in the most busy god awful noisy animal shed full of kids and other animals. But I didn’t know that they were actually a RESCUE back then!
I’ve always had a funny feeling about that rescue, they weren’t helpful when we was looking for piggies before I got my herd. And clearly they no consideration for the animals wellbeing taking them to these events. I really hope the guineas survived the day..
what can I do? Should I complain to someone?
