So called 'rescue'... *rant*

I can very much understand your upset as I've been in a similar predicament when rescuing my last piggie. In the end I refused to give a donation to the rescue as I felt that they had acted immorally in bringing her into the world by breeding from a rescue pig. Unfortunately this case of breeding left 3 pigs needing homes instead of just one and also resulted in the mum (the initial rescue) dying shortly after birth. I simply emailed the rescue involved and explained my objections to giving a donation on this occasion due to the nature of the case. I can't say whether its a regular occurance or not as I don't know anything more about the place but I know in future I will be going solely to rescues I know much more about and have had chance to talk more with even if it means a piggy train halfway across England

On the positive side at least you have found out the truth now and they wont be getting your help anymore. I hope you find a very deserving rescue piggy :)

Yep! I'm glad I found out, because now I know that I most definately wont be having any more to do with that place.
Its not for certain yet, but me and my family are thinking of trying to adopt a piggie from The Crawley Guinea Pig Rescue! :))
It just depends on whether we can find anything more local, and it wouldnt be until early next year xx

That's good to hear - Jenny came all the way to my house to help me with bonding, she is lovely! Will keep a look out for updates from you :)

Shame on any rescue who breeds from a rescued piggie, as that has to be purely for money. :(

I thought rescuing was about taking them on, and giving them a better lifestyle. Not taking them on to breed! Who knows where that poor little piggie would have come from, I'm sure they'd have been through enough in their life without having to have babies! grrrr
xx

As for rescues having swiss - you would be surprised what rescues have in. If you want a certain piggy, you would find it.

Agreed! My swiss was from a rescue (RSPCA), I saw him on here, loved him and was first to enquire. Fair enough I travelled an hour or so to pick him up but it was worth it. It's definitely a good idea to make note of all the rescues in your area or that you'd be prepared to visit and give them a call to see if they have anything in a particular colour/coat texture and if they don't you can always see if they have a waiting list and they might call you back if anything suitable arrives.

Would you agree with choosing a person hair, eye and nose quality? Many breeders who breed to show have no issues breeding son to mother if it improves there lines. I don't know much about breeding but surely this is not a responsible thing to do.

Yep Windwhistle Warren currently have a number of "pure bred" guineas for adoption that were taken in from a breeder who was closing down and going to give them away to god knows who for god knows what purpose. They will certainly be homed with people who are trusted to want their guinea as a much loved pet, not a thing for showing or breeding from.

People that rescue are helping the animals.

People that rescue do it for the animals which brings self reward

People who breed are just adding to the problem of over population.

People who breed are doing it for themself = own reward = Self Indulgence.

I don't know the rescue you are talking about but are you sure they bred the sow deliberately? Sometimes sows end up in rescues already pregnant, they may even have delayed implantation if were not fed very well and pop with babies 3 even 4 months after being with the boar.
