Well the OH was browsing gumtree yesterday and came across a lovely piggy who needed a home as his owner was moving soon, just one look at his face in the pigture and I was smitten!

We messaged the person saying we would like to come and see him as we were looking to have him and then they messaged back saying ok but they now wanted £30 for him as they had lots of food and hay etc to give with him. the OH wrote back to say that we would offer £15 but did not need any of the extras as we had already got enough.

She then messaged back saying "please tell me why you want this pig" which seemed a bit blunt so he told her why and she said, "well, we will let you know if we decide to get rid of him" and that was it :( not heard anything since!

I really got my heart set on him, guess it just wasn't meant to be!
 
Aw that's sad. :(

I guess either they just really wanted the money, which seems a bit petty since it's only an extra £15. Or they thought it wouldn't be a good home cos you wouldn't pay the extra money. £30 is a lot for a guinea pig though . . .

Sorry you didn't get the piggy. :( You obviously would have given it a great home.
 
I was wondering whether she thought we wanted him for snake food as we didn't need any food with him but I guess that's just my imagination running wild as usual! the OH clearly told her we already had 3 boys!

We could afford £30 but it was more than she had put in the original advert and as you said it was a bit much for a pig, I was considering offering the £30 but I suppose I should be strong :(

I hope that you will hear back from her; or can you message her again?
 
I'm going to get the OH to message her again just to try and get an update, I think she is moving back to China so he needs to go somewhere! I was even happy for him to send a link to my facebook album of my cage setup etc so she knows I'm not a bad owner! It's only round the corner as well :(
 
You could always message again and offer to show her pictures of your set up just incase she does think you want him for snake food.

I know if I wanted to rehome my girls, I would be more interested to know that they were going to a nice home rather than getting the most money I could.

She does sound a little strange.
 
Maybe she thinks you want him for breeding or to sell on for a profit, and that's why you said £15.

I'd agree that sending them photos would help.

If you really want him, maybe pay the full price if you want and donate the food to a shelter? Though it is a bit of a rip off, since well here anyway, I think it's hard to sell piggies.
 
Yeah I think we may, I mean we can always do with food it was just more on principle :(

Its my own fault for getting my hopes up I guess but I always have been that way!

well the OH sent her another message asking if she had changed her mind about selling or if the price put her in doubt and she got back straight away saying someone else has offered her £35 but she would have given him to us if they hadn't. I also dont think she meant to be so abrupt in the emails but it seems english isn't her first language, ah well I hope he will be well looked after!
