I got 3 girl pigs almost 2 weeks ago, they were very scared, and didn't like to be handled. We let them settle and gave them loads of food, hay and veg. I have been trying to leave them to settle as they got quite stressed if I tried to handle them. So everyday when I went to feed them I would keep the hutch door open for a few minutes and just talk to them. At first they would grab food and dart away, now I have one girl, who comes to the front of the hutch, looking at me and happily takes food from my hands. The other 2 are still quite skittish, but are coming to get food when the door is open and even have taken food from me on a number of occassions. Flower, the more confident of the three, made my heart melt today, she sat in the hutch and let me fuss her, I was stroking her head, and when I stopped she nudged me! Those two little eyes starring as if to say I was enjoying that, why stop! All three came from a young breeder who was giving them all up. I can't wait until I have gained their trust and they feel happy to accept me into their herd!

AWWW - these first moments when you know that you are gaining their trust are so precious!

I am sure that you will soon get them all round to befriending you!

I love hearing this! The trust of an animal really is one of a kind x) Thats why i love my job in a rescue especially with the 'special cases'.

Its great you have been so patient and caring! Keep up the good work :)

That's lovely for you. I love being part of the herd. And I foolishly thought it would be that owned the guinea pigs, not the ohter way round! :p Love it though. x
