So confusing ...help!

Having come back into Guinea Pigs after 40 yrs I am totally confused with the advise given on web sites...every one I read says different ,,feed such dont feed such....how can i decide what is right?

When I had piggies before I fed hay , muesli(mix) carrots and lots of grass...but i find sites that say dont feed much grass etc etc..........................:<>
 
Grass is fine for them, just be careful in the spring thats all. I wouldnt feed musli as it causes selective feeding (picking out the yummy bits and not getting a complete diet food). Its all about opinion some of the time. Welcome back to piggies. :)

Well we on the forum do all do things a LITTLE differently, but the main components of diet are
Good quality fresh hay (unlimited, round the clock)
Good quality pellet food (as opposed to musli, as pellets stop selective feeding and dont contain additives)
We also feed roughly one cup of fruit and veg per piggy per day (it is best to balance this, we have a food list in our food section which i am always refering too. The main aim is as much vit C as possible with as little calcuim as possible. :)

Lots of people also no longer use sawdust as bedding as it has been assosiated with respatory problems. :)

Housing guides are 120x60 cms for a pair of piggies (I'm not sure if these have changed i just thought i would pop them in)

Also if you have not yet aquired your new pets i would warmly recomend a rescue. Here, you will be sure to get a healthy piggy that ISNT pregnant, unlike with a pet store or breeder.
 
I totally understand how you feel. I just got my girls in May 2011 and I also haven't had guinea pigs for 40 years. My breeder has been so patient with me and my constant e-mails. I have gotten so much good advise from her and sites like this. I am finally getting into piggy mode and sorting through all the information. I have changed many things over the past 8 months to better suit my girls' needs. It has been a work in progress. Guinea pigs are amazing pets and if you really study their behaviour they will let you know what makes them happy and what doesn't. Welcome back to the world of guinea pigs.
