I am really not used to this. It's lovely, don't get me wrong but it is so darn hot.
I decided against putting the boys out today. Our Garden is quite small and in a position where it just gets constant sun until about 5pm. Where the run is, it's just sat in sunshine all day. I put my hand on the floor (It's concrete!) and it was burning hot.

It's such a shame. They need to get out in the sunshine but even I wouldn't go out in this heat. I sat in the garden for about ten minutes and then I felt a little ill because I was so hot.

I don't think this is my idea of piggy-friendly sunshine.
A nice breeze and a few clouds would make a whole lot of difference. Then all three of us would be out and enjoying this weather.

If I could cover the bottom of the run with something, it would stop their little feet from burning. I normally place fleece under the hidey part of the run and place newspaper under tunnels and tables and things.

Is there any material I could place under the whole run? Or maybe if I put some stuff over the run to keep most of the inside shaded, would that be alright for my boys?
It seems like we'll get alot of weather like this...
Anyone have any suggestions?
Remember, I can't move the run. It has to stay exactly where it is. The garden is too narrow and there are stone chippings over most of it. Where the run is now, is the only flat surface free.

Forgot to mention, I have some bottles freezing as we speak, as well as ice cubes to put in their drinkers.
Tomorrow I plan to get a cooling tile...Or Chinchiller as they're called :))

I have some old bed sheets somewhere...Would they be alright over half the run or under all of it?
I really want them OUTSIDE. They absolutely love it!

In weather like this, I always cover the whole run during the hottest hours of the day. The sun is too strong for any sane animal verturing out into anyway - apart from daft humans!

PS: You can dampen down the sheets to help reduce the temperature further!

Thank you!

I hope with these tips, that they can go out and enjoy this lovely weather! xx>>>

Hi

You may have already thought of this, but when I know we are going to have a few days of hot weather and that I might want to put the kids out in the run the next day we have one of those patio set umbrellas with a weighted base and I set that up early in the morning over the run to stop the ground getting direct sunlight and heating up. I then go out every so often and move the umbrella as the sun moves round the garden to make sure they are covered by the shade. You still need to use judgment as the umbrella won't stop the sun getting through completely but it would stop your concrete getting up to cooking point before you put your guinea pigs out.

Just a thought.

That's a neat idea!
We used to have one of those...I'll go and check the shed in the morning, we probably still have it. xx>>>
