So.. I'm going to need a new name now that I am in my new home. The name I had at the rescue center was terrible, in fact I had very little of a back story so my new hooman has no idea who named me.

I'm a little shy right now as things as so new here. But you can find more pictures of me over at Sooo Excited For Saturday

The current argument is between "Flynn" or continuing with the old norse names.

I managed to chill out long enough for some better pictures. Excuse my wet bottom.

I also seem to have some tufts of long hair right between my ears, stylish.

He's gorgeous :) :) :) x

Wow you are amazing with names! But I think it looks like it is going to be Flynn. *grumbles about not getting my name choice* hehe

You mean it wasn't you who named the fantabulous Eddi?
I love Eddi and his pirate patch.

Flynn is a lovely name...and sounds good with Freya :). How's he settling? X

He is still hiding quite a bit but I expect that for few days yet. He does emerge sometimes but is very skittish so if you move he'll bolt.
Freyja has been doing her best to coax him out, she's been jumping into the same hidey pouch as him and then getting him to follow her out. She has also taught him to use the ramp to the hay loft.
It was actually quite funny to see him at the top of the ramp worried about coming down it, and her at the bottom of it with the two of them chatting back and forth. I don't know what she said to him but eventually he made it back down the ramp.

It pongs a bit more than I would like on the first day of a clean cage but I expect there has been a little more spraying and that will probably improve over time. I might just have to swap pee pads and liners more often than usual this week.

Awe she sounds like she is being great with him :) wee dote :). Hopefully the pong will improve lol. I have to say I definitely find more of a smell with fleece. I just had my lot on woodshavings for 5 days while I was away and when I came home I could only smell a woody smell whereas even when I first clean the cages with fleece, that night I notice a slight smell. I suppose the smell of the wood just masks everything else lol X

I find fleece smells less (as long as you remember to but a bit of white vinegar in the wash with it). I suspect the "pong" is just because there is still a little bit of spraying going on occasionally.

The first night was amusing, at one point I put my head around the door and flicked the light on to find them both out in the open of thier enclosure standing perfectly still As if they were saying.

Freyja: Freeze it's the lights.

Flynn (out of the corner of his mouth): Ok but this really helps?

Freyja (whispering): If you stay perfectly still the hoomans can't see you and will fly away.

Flynn: I thought that was birds?

Freyja: Whats a bird?

Flynn: I don't know, maybe it's another word for a hooman. I heard some others taking about it once ok?

This morning they were both out for breakfast and Flynn didn't seem to mind kids being 1 C&C grid away from him while he was eating. Not sure which of them is boss as Freyja who used to be subdued by a very bossy ex-husboar seems unwilling to surrender to the same fate again.
Flynn is much more chilled than Freyja's previous partner. He is very much "Anything you say, dear" when she puts him in his place although he still likes a rumble of "Oh come on, you know you want me" now and again...which she tells him off for!

I LOVE the name Freyja - my favourite ever hamster was Freya.

Lmao your post was so funny!
I'm thinking maybe in my cage it's the hay box's that there is a slight smell off. In the morning when everything gets cleaned I don't notice anything but as the day goes on I notice a bit of a smell. I suppose having 9 piggies in one room there is going to be a bit of a smell....and I'm adding another 2 today! Lol X

I am following your thread and can't wait to hear how the boys settle in. It is nice you know a little history about them. At the rescue where Flynn is from every pig has a back story.. apart from him! It's very strange, normally it is written down if they were surrendered from a previous home and why, if they were found dumped, if they where part of a neglect case etc.... All that was written for Flynn was his month and year of birth and a description that roughly translates to "A little guy who needs some fun in his life once his castration post op period has passed".

So he is our mystery boy it would appear. Maybe he was a former member of G-Force before they got famous who knows :shh:

Does this work then?

The most important things to remember when washing fleece are:

1) That your choice of detergent does NOT contain fabric softeners, and do not add fabric softener as this coats the fleece and effects how it wicks away moisture.

2) To help neutralize the odors, or preventing the build up you can add a small amount of white vinegar to the wash.

3) Some people like to do an "extra rinse" cycle but I've never needed to thus far.

4) Sometimes if you find the fleece is not washing well it could also be down to a build up of detergent in your machine. A way to check and flush this is to run an empty wash with no detergent..if you get suds then yes there was a build up.

There you are that gives you his name pong= pongo

He already has a name, and besides considering its the female doing most of the spraying and creating the smell as a mounting deterrent. To name the male Pongo would be inaccurate ;)
