Looking into getting a nice big cage for my three boars (they are currently in two separate cages), I realized I....do not have a big enough space for 3 guinea pigs to all have one cage. At least not at the moment. Doy. Stupid me.

So I was thinking as an alternative, do you think daily floor time with the three of them might give Agent Nibbles (the lone pig) suitable cuddle/hangout time until such a time as I can arrange to get a bigger cage? This is assuming they actually get along, of course.. :)

Please let me know what you think!

As a supplementary question, I might be able to produce the 13 sq feet recommended floor space for 3 boars via a second level to the cage? But then it would be I guess two, 7sq feet cages, really, but with a ramp for them to travel up and down the two?

If your boys are not living together full time then they can't have floor time together and then be separated again.
Every time they are put together they start the whole complicated bonding process from scratch - for them it isn't just a fun play date.

If I were you I would just have 2 large cages and consider getting another friend for your lone guinea pig, and keeping them as 2 pairs. Trios of boars have a notoriously high fall out rate, so in the long run 2 pairs is more realistic.

There is lots of great advice in this section of the forum;

Guinea pigs don't do playtime. Each time they meet is bonding time, which is very stressful and frustrating for them. :(

If you can, please go for two two storey cages next to each other or try to find your Agent Nibble a friend via one of the good guinea pig rescues in your state. In that case, you can have a second cage on a table above the first cage.
