I just went to feed the guys, and last week went into wilkinsons and bought some of their healtheir treats for small pets and opened the bag to find a huge long piece of wire on the bag!
However I cant find any info about the company who made it on the internet and god help wilkinsons in the morning! grrrrgrrrrgrrrr

:o:o Thats not very good, you will have to see what wilkinsons say tomorrow. Good luck and hope you get your money back :)

Not so fused over the 2.70 for 2 it cost me, what if i had just tipped the stuff into the cages and not seen it? That could of been my baby boys with an accident which shouldn't of even happened .... i wish wilkinsons were open now pow-pow

gosh that could of done some serious damage. i think you definately deserve more than just your money back, some freebies for the piggies.

That's terrible! I think you should get some answers as soon as their open!
Lucky you saw the wire or who know what could have happened!
It doesn't bare to think about!
Grrr, people need to take more pride and care in this kind of thing!
It's awful it really is! I'm just glad your piggies and/or other small animals are alrigt!
Let us know how you get on, xx

how odd...

make sure you know exactly what you want out of them before you go so you don't come home feeling like 'i wish i'd asked for that...'

I had an issue with hay from the supermarket once (this is back in France, mid-late 90s). Anyway, I used to find small thorns in the odd packet until one day, I had to remove a branch about a foot long and half and inch thick of pure thorn, it looked like a rose bush... I actually really hurt myself on it. My parents ttok the bag back, we got our money back, a free bag and not long after they changed their brand. Some places go to extreme length not to lose customers.

you could always mention Watchdog if you are unhappy with your 'compensation'.

The only thing I am a bit concerned about is that I dont have the reciept anymore, so what if they try and say I must of bought it somewhere else?

well you could buy a new bag, then go back with the new receipt... and the incriminating evidence.

ha ha - you don't work in the Law do you Audrey? I was just about to say the very same thing and worked in the legal profession for 20 years. ha ha.

nope... regular teacher...:))

I am disgusted with this! I would normally just pour out a pile of this type of thing into the cage! I have some unopened in my cupboard from wilkos too will be checking it thorughly before giving it them! thanks for the warning!

I had a problem with wilkinsons hay this week, I stuck my hand in the bag of hay and cut my it badly by a huge thorny branch, imagine if that went into the piggies hutch?!

Wilkinsons offered me vouchers - Havent seen them yet though.

Log onto Wilko's website and email your complaint - I think you will receive a better answer by doing this, rather than going into the store.

well I rang up today and they are sending me out 'a good amount in vouchers' was her words as she has guineas and she was so so sorry

i should bloody hope so. that's awful, imagine if it got into a pig's eye?

oh thats bad. I've brought that stuff before but not found anything dangerous in it. But i have brought the salad of fruit leaves bag and i did find some thorn branches in it. I had to sort through it before giving the leaves to my pigs

Any kind of explanation or apology? Have you still got the wire? You could report it to Trading Standards as being dangerous. Vouchers is nice for you, but doesn't get away from the fact it should never have happened.

heres some quotes - 'after some investigation, I am pleased to be able to reassure you that the problem you described does appear to be an isolated occurance. There have been sales in 2008 of over 7000 with no similar complaints having been described'

'I was sorry to to learn of your disapointment on this occasion and as a gesture of goodwill please find enclosed gift vouchers to the value of £5 with my compliments'

the rest is waffle about how wilkinsons strives to provide great quality products at affordable prices

Hmmmph......I don't consider £5 to be 'a good amount' for compensation......especially when you stop and consider the potential sum it could have cost in vet bills for a nasty accident . I'm so glad you found it before your piggies got it!

I bought a new bale of soft bedding hay from Jollyes last week, and inside it was a large amount of flints that had obviously been through machinery, and the edges of them are as sharp as razors . I still haven't decided if I should complain or not. I'm just glad I always check through their bedding before I put it in my piggie's cages.
