but I would be so much happier had they of never been domesticated in the first place and we had no animals in captivity.

Not sounding rude here but if that were the case, there'd be no dogs, cats, cows, pigs, sheep, etc etc the list goes on and all animals that did exist would be scared of you.

Kat

It breaks my heart more to think that animals ARE so trusting of us humans and look what humans are capable of when it comes to animal cruelty. In so many cases humans dont deserve the trust of animals :( I mean cows trust their farmer who's aim is to send them to be murdered for peopl'e to eat - why should that farmer have the trust of his cows >:(

Oh dear. What a can of worms we've opened here. Really, one's personal views are what they are, we can't change hundreds of years of ancestry.

All I meant by my post was as an animal lover it breaks my heart to see all animals neglected in anyway. I won't be tarred by other humans brushes, I simply wish to help in whatever small way i can.

End of post MOD please?

It's so very sad, there are so many unwanted and uncared for animals in the world.

I don't believe in breeding, a few years ago I use to be indifferent to breeding, but seeing the sheer volume of animals that die in rescues every single day, I truly don't believe in any sort of breeding anymore. There is no need to continue with these man made breeds. I know some rabbit breeders and I don't think they're bad people by any stretch of the imagination, they're nice folk who look after their animals well, it's just the act of adding more unwanted pets to this world that I disagree with and don't even get me started on bad breeders, who breed from animals with known problems and for profit.

I am a weirdo vegan though, so in my ideal world we would live side by side with animals and not keep them as pets. My animals enrich my life and I love them, but I would be so much happier had they of never been domesticated in the first place and we had no animals in captivity.

While there are animals in need of home I'll help as much as I can, it just breaks my heart that their are so many unwanted animals, the lucky ones are in rescues, the unlucky ones are sat at bottoms of gardens, unloved, un-kept and forgotten and slowly die in their tiny coffins that they're owners call a hutch. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

If you can please rescue.
Why do you keep animals if your views are so strong against it?

I said this already in my first post :)

When I decided to get piggies I phoned the nearnest rescue centre ( 50 miles away ) and was left feeling totally confused and fed up with there lack of help :o

The only defence I can think of on their behalf was that it was coming up for Christmas when I was looking.

I explained to the woman that I had been thinking of getting piggies for a long time and that now I was ready to make the commitment as I felt I had done enough research ( even told her that I had been to the vet and ask him endless questions and that he was happy to provide a reference for me !).

She was never much help and always she she was busy and would get back to me - which she never did :tickedoff: , I said I would pay the petrol money for her to come and done the home visit then she started saying her car needed repairs and was not fit to drive ::)

anyway to cut a long story down I got fed up with her and bought the girlies from a vet recommended breeder ! :smitten:

That's a really unfortunate story you had with rescues - I have dealt with two rescues here for my boys and they have been nothing but informative and helpful. I know many rescues are extremely busy and some are run from people's houses, so that may explain as to why she came across as a bit unreliable?

Does anyone know of any places in Edinburgh where you can get rescue piggies? I'd much rather give rescue piggies a loving home than buying from a pet store - its such a shame that some many end up that way. :(

That is what I prefer, why would I want a cow to exist purely to be slaughtered? Why would I want any domestic animal to exist purley for my own amusement? I would not be bothered in the slightest, if animals were scared of me! Unfortunately as humans we're born to think we should be the master of every other life forms and control everything. When us, as a race are parasites, all we do is destroy our environment, kill each other, dominated and kill other species, pollute the sea, the air, the soil and all for endless greed. Really if there is any hope for this planet and the animals on it, it would be better if we didn't exist. ;D

Sorry kind of off topic, you don't sound rude btw O0.

I don't think humans are parasites at all! If you look at evolution we are one of the most highly-evolved species. By nature we are supposed to eat meat and to hunt. Cows also exist to provide milk and leather - early humans would have kept animals too. And if you don't want domestic animals for your own entertainment, then why do you have pets?
We can all do something to protect the envirnment and reduce pollution, this is true, but if we didn't exist then animals would by natural selection gradually kill each other off and another dominant species would emerge anyway.
Don't brand us all as parasites! My idea of a parasite is someone that contributes nothing to society, engages in crime, sponges of everyone else, mugs old ladies, mistreats others etc etc, and I for one would happily ship them all off to Anthrax Island.
