A few weeks ago my family's acquaintance started a rescue specifically for small pets. Most of the rescues here won't take in smaller animals, so in many ways this has been such a blessing.

Today was my first night volunteering. I helped clean the cages, arrange all kinds of things, I trimmed nails and fed the floofs. Most of the evening I spent sneezing and wheezing, though, since I'm actually very allergic to hay dust and bunnies. But do I care? Of course not!

After coming home, yes I was physically tired but spending some hours there really took a toll on me mentally. Seeing so many poorly animals, scared and unsure, I never really imagined it'd be this hard. Even though everybody's there full of love and ready to help, it's scary. So many of them came from owners that seemingly simply threw their hands up in the air and gave up after their pets didn't heal on their own. So many get pets without properly preparing for them.

I'm very shaken up by this but I will keep volunteering. I never took vets/rescuers for granted but tonight I received a big reality check nevertheless! I understand it more now. And I can imagine how hard it must be to do this all day, everyday.

You're superheroes!

Aww this is absolutely lovely. I agree they do a wonderful job and I can only imagine how tiring it is.

my biggest respects to all those people

Such a lovely post to write and you are quite right to say we don’t always give vets and rescues the credit they deserve.
Thank you.

Good for you volunteering with all your allergies.
Is there anything your doctor can give you to help?
