If my guinea pig was a hedgehog! Apparently he has no clue what either a hedgehog or a guinea pig looks like! Though he must have remembered somewhere in the back of his mind that I used to have hedgehogs, even though he plainly never looked at them during the 12 years I kept them, or else he would have realized that they look like nothing like guinea pigs!

Can you tell we are not that close to father-in-law and that he doesn't keep up with what's going on in our family all that much? My kids looked at him like he was crazy and pointed out that hedgehogs have spikes!

That's crazy! He should pay more attention! I LOVE your guinea and hedgehog names! We are pig-sitting a guinea named Sundae tomorrow for 10 days, and if your Sundae is the one on your avatar, they are almost identical!

Actually, Hadley is the one in my avatar... Sundae has a lilac head and red eyes. I'll have to put a picture of her up at some point! I've actually run into a couple of guinea pigs named Sundae on the board!

I have to admit when it's veg time the girls get exited and their fur does puff up! I think it's excitement :))

Umm - I can just about understand someone not knowing what guineas look like but to not know what a hedgehog looks like . . . . That's just weird!

However, I have just googled 'hedgehogs in Canada' and it seems you don't have them in the wild there so maybe that explains it.

We don't have hedgehogs in the wild here at all, so I can understand people not being familiar with hedgehogs, but guinea pigs are such a common pet... it's like not being able to identify a rabbit or a cat or something to me! Plus the fact that we have owned both hedgehogs and guinea pigs for years, so really he has had ample opportunity to see both!

Oh dear hehe :)) You should of gotten him to hold one and see if he saw the difference then!

The number of times I've heard 'look at the hamsters' and even 'rabbits' while outside with the herd is mind numbing!

If it was an abby that got mistaken for a hedgehog then it would be a tiny bit more understandable ... Or not:D

my aunt is always calling my two hamsters:yikes:

My ex used to ask how my hamsters were frequently because he knew how much it annoyed me! He never did like my piggies.

Nope... the one he mistook for a hedgehog was a sheltie cross... very silky, no spikes on her! LOL!
