My pigs were badly handled when i first got them and they were also too young (4 weeks but only about 130g) but the owner said if i didn't have them then i won't be able to get them and i'd prefer to have them and look after them than have a child take them and stress them out.
They're also both good weights now, i think they're going to get pretty big: Frankie is 960g and Bobby is 972g at 7 months.

Anyway i've been struggling with handling them as their breeder (i didn't know about rescues before i joined) was very rough with them (there's a pic of her holding to between her fingers around their neck ?/ - my friend did have a go at her for it too) and they ran any time i went near them for the first 3 months.

At around 6 months i managed to pick Frankie up and he's also doing well now but will only be picked up in a blanket which i'm fine with as i have a nosey dog so don't want them getting scared.

Bobby on the other hand was a nervous wreck - he always hid behind Frankie and would often shake if i opened the cage/coop door. I decided to try and pick him up after Frankie with the same blanket so it smelt of him and he was amazing.
He had a couple of little squeaks when i first went to pick him up but i managed to sit cuddling him for around half an hour - he even ate and then had a nap.
Sorry to babble a little but i really couldn't be prouder of him. I thought it would be a few more weeks at least of holding Frankie near him before i could pick him up but not 2 weeks. :laluot_18:

It sounds as though they are in good hands with you, you are taking it slowly and carefully and thinking of them. It is wonderful seeing piggys relax with you and gain in confidence. Pretty soon you, their slave, will be taken for granted and they will be demanding little darlings!

Ahh, that's nice to hear. That breeder doesn't sound very nice though, poor pigs. It is amazing when they finally start to trust you :)

AWWW - it is always such special moment when you know that you have turned them round! x)

Thanks, i'm doing a degree in Animal behaviour and much prefer going at their pace obviously unless they need treatment as it keeps them calm. It's also nice to have them run up to me wheaking (usually only tea time though when they get their veg)
Sarah, i already am their slave lol - anything to keep them quiet when i'm watching the tv or doing my work - usually carrot/basil works haha
