Last night Gerry didn't come out wheeking for his evening veg like everyone else so I feared the worst - the return of the bloat. I offered him a piece of carrot which he had a little nibble of but just wasn't that fussed. I got him out gave him a good check over. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary he just wanted to snuggle up to me. He didn't feel at all bloated but there were a few tummy gurgles.

He doesn't often like to snuggle up for long and makes it very clear when he's had enough by pulling on my clothes. He just seemed lethargic.
He snuggled up under my chin for 2 hours! I was relieved that he'd pooped all over me with out me realising so he has eaten and his tummy is working but worried as he wouldn't normally do that.
I've been worrying all night about him and was expecting to be straight on the phone to the vet in the morning.
This morning he didn't come out for veggies with the others either. I came in, rattled the salad bag, still nothing.
It wasn't until I put the veggies in the pen he leaped out of bed and started stuffing his face.
I'm very relieved but also confused. What was up with Gerry?!
I shall be keeping a very close eye on him.

Perhaps he was just having an off day? Keep a close eye on him and weigh him daily to check he's not losing any.

xx

How's Jerry doing?

Maybe he was having an off day, as has been mentioned. His tummy could have been a little gassy if you heard it gurgling. Maybe some probiotics for him would be a good idea too.

Gerry had lost 55 grams since the last time I weighed him 4 days ago. His weight is still within his 'normal' range although it's slightly more than usual fluctuations so I'll keep weighing him to make sure it doesn't drop any more.
He felt ever so slightly bloated so I gave him some Emeprid and Zantac which I had in and he seems much perkier this evening so maybe it was just starting to build.
I've just got in from work and he wheeked and climbed up the bars for his piece of cucumber which was a huge relief as I've been worrying about him all evening. I've never locked the building so fast to get home!

Dittos stomah gurgled the other night! I didnt realise this ment he was bloated-poor baby :( hes fine though happy and eating etc and popcornin but atleast i know the signs now ..

The way to test is to gentle tap on the piggies side, if it sounds hollow it could be full of gas. Also if they sound like a hot water bottle when you pick them up.
Straight to the vet if you suspect bloat it is very painful and can be fatal which I sadly found out with one of my first guinea pigs before I knew (or my vet at the time) new what it was.
