8...

Cadbury my pig who is nearly 5 years old has been acting really really strange recently. He is off his food, normally goes mad at all the veg and fruit and even his dry food, but he has managed one piece of celery and thats it.

He is also sleeping all the time, normally he runs inside his hidey hole when I come up to the cage but now he just sits there. Past two nights I have had him out on my lap giving him loads of cuddles, he is yawning constantly (never seen him yawn in 5 years) plus he is going into such deep sleeps where he twitches and his eyes roll while hes on my lap.

Is he poorly or just run down? I have a 5 month old in a cage next to him who bites the bars constantly and makes the rumbling noise and I am wondering whether he is keeping him awake and Cadbury is just tired.

Have you checked all the vitals eyes ears mouth nose and tail end. My boar was acting strange and not eating etc and he had a piece of hay stuck up his penis. If all his vitals seem fine. I would take him along to your vets for a check up and if hes not drinking try syringing in some water. Good luck hunni!

Perhaps you should get a vet to check it out first. It would be wise maybe to move the 5 month away for a day or so and see if it helps...

Oh love........please make sure you enjoy your moments together xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>
Have you checked to see if he has toofie problems? older piggies do tend to not eat as much hard foods, which then makes it hard for them to keep their molars ground down ..........
could def be worth a visit to the vets for a toofie checkup and a general health check up
meanwhiles as i said enjoy and have lots of extra cuddles, as they're so so precious xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

I did notice last night one of his eyes is slightly weepy. I have checked his ears and his bottom etc and thats fine, he is wee'ing and pooing ok. He hasn't had much to drink but then its quite difficult to tell what his normal drink pattern is because he has a new bottle, his old one leaked.

He had his teeth checked by the vets a couple of months ago. He has 1 1/2 at the top and 1 at the bottom which the vets filed back so they weren't too sharp. By the amount he kept yawning last night I saw inside his mouth lots and it seemed ok.

well, that good that it's not his teeth. I have been told teeth problems can hurt more than other things seem you need your mouth to survive... take him to a vet would be wisest choice..do you have a vet close to you?

Yeah there is one pretty close. It just seems strange him yawning so much and really going into such a deep sleep where he twitches and his eyes roll.

I did find with our boy Duke that he slept a lot more............
sorry I'm of no help, but yeah i'd get him checked out anyways xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

by his toofies i meant his molars the real back ones.........very very hard to see, quite often they're the problem they can actually trap tongues or even put ulcers on tongues from them trying to get around them grrrrrrrrrrr
best of luck xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

i would get him to the vets lovey, just to make sure they can check teeth, vitals etc and hopefully work out what it could be.

My guineas sleep on me all the time, they sleep anywhere actually! and only 3 months and 7 months. they yawn alot when they got over excited in the day too!

Get him checked to be sure though xx

I think a visit to the vet would be a good idea. It might be his back teeth causing him a problem. It is difficult for us to them. The vet can use buccal pads to open your piggie's mouth and see his back teeth properly. Hope the visit to the vets helps. Please let us know how you get on xx
