Could anyone help me please. Yesterday went out to our Guinea pigs and all 3 had died Could anybody shed some light on what could have happened me and the children Are heartbroken. Could the neighbours plants that are coming under the fence have poisoned them? Thank you

So sorry for your loss.
I think there's maybe a few reasons?
Could have been from a heart attack, they can come on very suddenly, maybe something terrified them, a dog/fox etc.
Or a rat could have got in?
Do any of them have any marks on them?
X

My dad came up to sort them as he has lots of animals, but when he looked they didn't look to have any marks, they are ins big chicken coup. My mum said the way they were didn't look like fright but she could see the neighbours plants poking through that the Guinea pig could reach, I just don't understand with it been all 3. They had only been gone a few hours

Perhaps it was the plants then, it's hard to know.
It's such a horrible thing to have to find especially as you have no idea what happened. I think the only way to know for sure if it would help you would be a postmortem at the vets.

My dads already buried them in the garden for the kids, I'm not that fussed about animals but these guys really were part of the family, my daughter taught them tricks they used to snuggle up while we watched a film and get half into our dressing gown

Guinea pigs have a way of making you fall in love with them.
You could post a tribute to them in the Rainbow Bridge section along with some pictures of them if you like.
It's obvious they were loved and they'll be greatly missed.

I am so sorry. Do you know what the plants were? That may help in understanding whether they had eaten something poisonous or not. x

Not sure what this is but there are hundreds of plants that are poisonous to guinea pigs. Flowers/leaves that grow from bulbs like tulips are toxic. ..

Have you ever noticed it flower? It looks a little bit like my buddleia but I am hopeless at plant ID.

I'm so sorry this happened.
Yes it flowered last year and if I'm rite it was pink and white. I will ask the neighbour she may know what it is as its in her garden

Could be then. But yes, asking the neighbour is the quickest route to finding out.
I know it's not going to make it any better but I just can seem to settle not knowing the actual cause. But I hope it's that and not the thought that it could be someone that has done it to them

I hope you find out the answer, sometimes knowing the reason why helps because then you can have some closure and can begin to grieve

Been to see the neighbour and it's a jasmin plant that flowers white, anyone know of that's toxic to them?

I agree that's what I need to know then my mind can stop doing over time

It looks a bit like jasmine. Jasminum officinale f. affine | large-flowered jasmine/RHS Gardening This is not poisonous.

It could also be solanum jasminoides (because it looks like jasmine) - if so it can be poisonous - see Is a Flowering Potato Vine Poisonous to Dogs?. It's the same family as deadly nightshade and potatoes. The berries are most poisonous, but the other bits are too, just less so.

Both are twining climbing plants that have fragrant white flowers in summer.

I can't help as to whether it poisoned your guinea pigs, but if it's solanum and not jasmine I would keep all of your pets away. However, they could also have died from fright etc, as mentioned above, I just know a bit about plants.

Thank you very much for your reply, she's not quite sure which jasmine plant it is. My dad knows abit about animals he has rabbits , Guinea pigs ect and he said the way there were he doesn't think it was by fright.

So sorry for your loss. I thought the plant looked like jasmine so i googled it, and several sites say jasmine is toxic to animals. Popcorn free little ones. X

Thank you so much for looking for me, now i am able to come to term what's happened, it was the not knowing that I didn't like x

If the flowers are purple, it's another form of solunum.

I hope you can find out which it is or persuade your neighbour to put another climber there

Best wishes for you and your children after such a terrible experience xx
